For all the mistakes Sega made, the Dreamcast was the one that Sega did everything right. Yet, the game industry was unforgiving. It was the first true "Next-Gen" system. I remembered when it first came out it blew everything away in terms of shear graphics including PCs. For me, it seems like that's the first significant jump in the gaming world. Soul Calibur (launch or near-launch title) was such an unbelievable game.

The Dreamcast is superior to the PS2 for one main reason: native VGA support. It doesn't make a big deal for most gamers, but for those using computer monitors they know exactly what I'm talking about.

I got the VGA box and played Draconus (or whatever it was called) on a monitor like that. That was ultra high res gaming back then.

I still have mine and about 75 games for it, just about to say screw it and go sit down and do me some 8 hours of gaming. My boys and I still play the hell out of it, always looking for more games for it when I can at local pawn shops and garage sales, more luck at pawn shops though. Local one to me has a ton of controllers left for $2 each, I just bought all the games they had, going to go back and pick up a few more controllers when I get more money.

I bought one brand new when BB had it for $50. I bought another one (used) from Gamestop for about $20.

I need to get some games. Most of them were stolen a while back.

Soul Calibur was and is a great game. NFL 2Kx was great too.

It was great till the PS2 came out... if the Dreamcast had a DVD player, I think it would have survived longer... especially with its 4 player ports

I just listed mine on ebay. I dragged it cross country not once but twice and haven't turned it on in ages. It's time for it to go.

Perhaps one of you sentimental folks can buy it.

Dreamcasts are still quite popular for Marvel vs Capcom 2. Tournaments are run with it.

I've had my DC for years and I still love it and use it all the time. So many good games (especially the fighters.. MvC2, CvSNK2, Guilty Gear, Soul Calibur, DoA) and it makes an awesome NES/SMS/SMD emulation box.

I need to buy one while they're still cheap. My black Sports edition one doesn't work now :(
It runs for a few minutes, then reboots itself.

Did they make Tekken for the DC? I think you could use the Bleem emulator, but I don't remember Tekken for the DC...?

The online play was hyped, but the release never had it.

I love my Dreamcast. You can download pretty much every game on bittorant now plus tons of NES, SNES, Game Gear, and Game Boy games.

Also ScummVM is available for the Dreamcast so you can play all those old Lucas Arts games like Monkey Island!!!!

I had one and then we moved and I can't find the damn thing. It was in a moving box, and now I just can't find it. I think it got thrown out somehow. :(

I just got it from the pawn shop over the weekend along with roadsters, chefs luv shack, and seaman with the mic. I havent tried it yet, it doesnt look to be a legit disk, but I wasnt going to complain since the others were and got them all for $5. Seaman is weird, roadsters sucks, and going to test tekken out one day soon. Hope it works, if not I still think $5 for seaman, luv shack and the mic was not too bad. Luv shack is the bomb, I had it for the pc but it wont work on xp without locking up all the time.

Dreamcast was a couple of years ahead of its time, plus was killed by false hype that SONY built up with the Playstation.

I remember playing a demo for that, it was quite fun.

Sonic Adventure and THPS were great too.

Speaking of ahead of it's time, I remember towards the end of the DC's life Sega offered a VOIP service. You could use the microphone that came with Seaman then connect to the internet via the DC modem and make long distance calls through it. They were grasping at straws by the time the PS2 launched. It's too bad too, I bought a GameCube after the DC, with the exception of a few good games it never matched the fun I had with the DC.

Dustcast.
ive owned many, from an import before they came to the us, up til last year.
the dreamcast is better when you dont have it.

Huh? how many games are there for DC? now how many are there on the PS2?

Dreamcast has FAR more original games, PS2 is the textbook definition of generic. It's a testament to the DC when it has more original games than a console that's still putting out games today.

Seaman - might have been strange but the most original game I've ever played.
Shenmue
Jet Set Radio
Samba de Amigo
Space Channel 5
just to name a few...

not to mention all the good gun games, while not exactly original it had so many good gun shooters. Oh, and it actually had tons of good exclusive games you couldn't find elsewhere.

Dreamcast today is still more fun for me than any other console, gonna go play Chu Chu Rockets right now

Heh... many, many hours of my life went into THPS and THPS2. I've pretty much whizzed through the rest of them after all the practice I had on those first two.
