WalMart is selling the thing for $99. Saw it there last night. Believe that Software Etc/Babbages/FuncoLand are also, at least according to Gamestop Didn't see the package at WalMart, though you can check Gamestop online too see if your local store is carrying it...
I read somwhere that the latest DC's have more anti-piracy techniques being used. But I don't knwo how accurate that claim is, or if there's a new mod out already to bypass this.
in the light of the whole controversey over playing backups, what is a good vintage to look for in DC systems? or should I look into a refurb cuz I know it would be older?
What the hell is mosdef talking about? Any dreamcast can play cdr backups. My friend just got a dreamcast and it works fine. If you want to be sure, you can go to http://www.gamecopyworld.com and read up about it. They have updated news about playing cdr games, patches, etc. but I have never seen anything about Sega developing a system that can't play backups.
I saw it confirmed on a certain site that offers DC game backups that the Dreamcast unit that is included with the Smashpack does indeed play backup copies of games.
