3Dnews.net has it dat Sega is goin down. But as for DC games...if you mean RoMz,...they have never existed cus GD's dont work in CD-Romz. As for getting them the other way...any chat rooms COULDhave em, but I hope you got a cable modem, cus 800megz aint a little to download.

* Sega is NOT going down. They are "restructuring" meaning they might stop producing Dreamcast consoles, etc. in the future and concentrate on making software for other companies. They still have 30+ titles in development of which most will likely see the light of day.

* Good source for "roms" is USENET if you're not hip to the IRC jive.. ;)

No, they're not going to stop producing dreamcasts. That was merely a rumor. The idea of the dreamcast going into other technologies is an IDEA.

thanks for the heads up on the DC deal. it still is 150, so no thanks on the misleading title, but a 50 dollar GC kinda makes me feel better :D haha

not bad, nonetheless. basically, you buy a DC, you pick a couple free games.

edit..
oh yeah, I forgot to mention, forte agent is a really nice newsgroup reader for cruising alt.binaries.whateverthehellthegroupforthatstuffis

that's just a completely unrelated statement. :D hehe. newsgroups are fun.

Just in case you did want to purchase a new dreamcast and backup your games, you should be warned that new dreamcasts have some sort of copy protection in them. I've heard they can't play backups. I personally haven't seen such a dreamcast but I bought a used one as soon as I heard that. I got mine at funcoland for $99. Seems definitely used, but no problems so far.

Yeah, amnesiac's right....sega's not out of the video game biz, they're switching markets. They're going to cease console/game hardware design (which costs mucho dinero) and focus only on software from now on. Which is no suprise if you consider their top-notch DC & arcade games and the difficulties of launching new consoles today.

Don't worry about "no more dreamcast" anytime soon though, but don't expect a dreamcast 2 either, at least from sega anyway.

If you have a Sam's Club by you, they have Dreamcast bundles including Crazi Taxi or NBA2K, an extra controller, and a Sega brand VMU for 149.99

Well, it's official. SEGA has confirmed they are stopping production on the Dreamcast (www.gamers.com). This sucks since I just got one for Christmas. The silver lining I guess is that there are still some killer games coming out like UT, Half-Life, Sonic 2 and Shenmue 2. Plus Bleem! for Dreamcast. So there are still reasons in my mind to keep your DC if you bought one. I actually consider it a good console...

dreamcasts have their place in the succession of consoles. its a great console :) many games, many backups, etc.

Fills in the hole nicely between my ps-1, and the xbox :)

Talk about overreacting.

Sure, it looks like Sega is getting out of the console hardware biz... But that doesn't mean that everyone is all-of-a-sudden going to stop making games for it.

I'm going to wait for the Cube...I've seen specs for this and the games coming out on it...amazing.

Xbox designers were orignally thinking that the Xbox would double the performance of the Game Cube...now designers are realizing that the Xbox may be hard pressed to equal the Cube's performance and rich feature set. Of course Xbox has got all kind of extra goodies lined up to help them out.

Gamecube has those funny mini-CDs too. Reason why Playstation dominated N64 was the the PS could play "backups". I have, errr I mean I know someone, who has a N64 with about 20 cartridges, but also has a DC with about 70 "backup" games. Too bad about the end of the DC line, very underrated, great graphics and games. DC will be around for quite a while, Sega did sell almost 6M units with most of them in the US. If "my friend" would've looked harder he no doubt could have over 150 or so backup DC games.

I predict the Gamecube will be the last console for Nintendo too, as MS and Sony will dominate. PS2 is vastly overhyped, overrated and overpriced. Glad I sold mine on Egay.

yea so are the original nintendos, and the original sega, and the atari system. I wonder how many people still play those things or even consider it as a collection. Well anyways, I am gonna grab it myself but hopefully it isnt a antique after 3 month i got it
