Dreamcast Backup?

I have a million little kids in my house, and I do not want them breaking my dreamcast games. If I get a backup of them on CD-R, I have heard that only dreamcasts made before september will read cd-rs? Is this true, or not?

P.S. I do not condone piracy. I write software, and I expect people to pay for it or me = no job.

Made before sept?

They are all made before Sept....They stopped making dreamcasts.

From all i have read they all play the backups...

Sept LAST year. I heard this, so it was false?

Acckk, ok i didn't realize your asking about last year... As production this year ended in March.

Hmmm, i would have to check my Dreamcast for the manufacture date. (i know mine plays backups)
I'll try to remember during lunch to check the date...

Off-the-cuff: I still doubt its true...i never read any dreamcast sob stories about not playing backups.

I was under this same impression until last week. There was a person on here that had bought a Nov 2000 unit and it wouldn't play CDRs. However, he took it back, looked through the stack and got a June 2000 unit and it worked fine with his CDRs.

Whether or not this is true and accurate is up to you to decide. But, supposedly the rumor says that any after Sept 2000 will not read CDRs.

I've seen the Utopia bootloader on the shelf in EB, which should allow you to play cd-rs regardless of production run....never tried it though.
