Also, an objective test for methods of discovering music is number of enjoyable songs found per day, vs cost of finding them vs. time spent finding them. It's not subjective, there are good and bad ways to find songs you find enjoyable.

And btw, If you haven't figured it out by now, I'm just contradicting whatever you say, because I really don't listen to much music at all.

(In fact, if you really want to know, all I really use is Pandora...)

Haha, so you give me the "that's how you have a discussion" speech and now you tell me this? Your trolling powers are extraordinary.

Pandora is excellent as well.

videogames101 and shocksyde are both retarded.

The only songs of DT I don't like that much are the ones made pre-Labrie.

DT are amazing musicians but they lack emotional power IMO. Shoving 10,000 notes in 1 min doesn't do much for me.

Have you ever listened to Under a Glass Moon?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...5fkB_s&feature=related

Are you serious? That song sucks. Welcome to 1986!!!! Does White Lion and Ratt open for these guys?

The singing is freaking horrible #1. #2, I don't care how good Petrucci is technically, his writing just sucks. It's so cheese the song you just posted. It's like 50 year old guys trying to play some pseudo hard rock.

Honestly, I really respect guys like Gilbert, Via, Satriani and Petrucci. The problem is most of their music really sucks. I can watch Via and be amazed when he's shredding, but oh my god I'd never listen to his actual albums. It's freaking painful at how bad and cheesy some of the songs are. Same goes with Dream Theater. Can't stand their music.

Maybe you should just go back to Britney or push it with Celine because obviously this stuff is way over your head.

No, I understand the music, as I've been playing guitar since I was 10. I just don't LIKE it. Idiot. It's called personal taste.

Some people in this thread seem to not understand personal taste or opinion.

DT is very touch and go for me. I have tried very hard to like all of their stuff, but there is just so much better stuff out there I would rather listen to. Some songs are great, but for me they are too few and very far between.

Some of the DT crowd can be like the Tool crowd if you know what I mean :)

I like Tool though, so don't kill me Tool fanboys!

So what music DO you like?

Personally, anything less than Dream Theater bores me.

My personal taste most people would probably hate. Bands like Deftones, Helmet, Hum, Far, Failure, Janes Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, Will Haven, Machine Head and so on. Mostly hard rock to metal. But I'm an equal opportunity music lover. I've been to concerts of Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, B. B. King, Buddy Guy, Eric Johnson, The Eagles, Tom Petty, yadda yadda yadda.... I like a lot of different types of music.

That said, personal taste, I can't stand the actual music of guitar virtuosos. I like watching Yngwie Malmsteen go off and he's amazing. But his music sucks. I just don't care for it and I don't like 80's style singing for the most part. You can sing high pitch, congrats, grow a pair! :) It had its place, but lets move on.

Yikes, radio-friendly nu-metal.

One band in that entire group could be considered "nu-metal" and that's the deftones.

You obviously don't know anything about music if you think Hum, Helmet, Far, Failure, Janes Addition, NIN and so on are "nu-metal". I could easily give you a list of obscure bands I listen to, but what's the point?

who cares what he likes? It does not change his opinion or anyone elses. If he does not like it, he does not like it. So if he says Rush, what will you do? Just go "Oh, they are DT, they suck"?

Don't feel bad. It's all a matter of taste. I personally find them to be completely soulless.
