Dreadlocks, anyone here have them? (white folks that is)

I can sorta see dreads on a black person, but when I see them on a white "kid" it just disgusts me.

I used to think it was some white kid trying to be a Rasta (Silly as hell in and of itself) then the other day it dawned on me that maybe there is another reason for it. It used to be that long hair was part of the mystic of being a hippie and you almost NEVER saw anyone OTHER than hard core hippies WITH long hair. Now you even see C&W singers with long hair. Is having dreads the NEW statement for the hippie culture? If so, KNOCK IT OFF! It makes you look silly AND gross at the same time. Silly cuz you look like a Rasta poser, and gross cuz you look like an escapee from a cave dwelling... :roll:

 

My hair would dread perfectly. I don't do it because it's nappy and non-business like.

Back when I had really long hair my gf (at the time) did the multi-braid thing to it once. very dread like and it sucked.

Nothing I guess if that's your thing. I just wonder WHY anyone would want to. Hence I came up with the above theory ...

No, the Poles wore them way back when as well, and I'm sure many other cultures did too.

Dreads however, to the best of my knowledge, were first (in modern times at least) worn by Rasta's and no one else.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

His nickname was RastaFarley.
