Harrington's a second rate quarterback at best but much of the Detroit mess rests squarely on the shoulders of Millen.
hey, nice to see you posting again. thought you got wiped out in Cancun, glad to see that my fears were unfounded.

he's got a point...I always think people are too quick to jump on harrington, but this is what his 3rd or 4th season? He's got the receivers, and the RB...what more he need?

Probably an offensive line... and a defense.

question for those who know more about football than i: in the remaining games, can the Lions ditch the West Coast offense and just play a "normal" football offense?

You don't completely retool your offense in the middle of the year. You may emphasize certain things (like the run over the pass) more but retooling is pretty much saved for the offseason.

i don't know much about the football, but it seems that the West Coast offense stressed the short pass, right?

can't they start "opening up" the receivers by Harrington throw deep? Harrington did seem to have some tiny bits of success when he just let it fly down the field.

also, what about Mooch's running back by committee attitude? can they change that now and let KJones run a majority of the time?

Matt Millen is a dumb ass, pure and simple. I can't blame this on Joey Harrington, I mean, you guys say, "Oh he's got 3 1st round WRs and a good running back". Well, Kevin Jones is having a bad year, and only one of those WRs are actually doing anything. Their Defense is battered, etc. I dunno what it'll take to get the Lions actually competive again, but Matt Millen sure as hell isn't helping.

You just described by what I meant when I said "emphasize certain things". This will all be up to Dick Juron of course but you don't scrap your offensive system in the middle of a season. You can tweak it though.

there are so many uncertainties.

right now i'd have to think the main offensive scheme is "damage control". ie. try not to suck worse than you did with Mooch.

gotcha. like i said, i don't know too much about football.....i've been trying to follow the Lions and NFL in general this season. 4th place (of 8) in the fantasy football league, w00t! especially considering how little i know.

anyways, i'd like to see the Lions go for broke and "emphasize certain new things". what else can you lose at this point?
