As for the thread topic, yes the Islamic extremists are thugs for making their threats. I'm sure if I made a cartoon defiling Pat Robertson or Jesse Jackson, I would get some death threats from the Bible Belt as well.
I'm not sure if as much would happen. Would 5000+ (actually it would probably need to be scaled up as well) people march against a cartoon defiling Pat Robertson or Jesse Jackson? Probably not. In fact, there are probably cartoons out there that mock these characters already.
Maybe if you had something with Jesus some people would do something, but in the end I don't think it will likely be as severe as other reactions we have seen. But then again, drawing a picture doesn't seem to be 'defiling' much.

The amazing truth about religion, major and minor, is that almost all the practitioners of any of them were born into them. India is full of Hindus, Italy full of Catholics, Tibet full of Buddhists, and Saudi Arabia full of Muslims.
So what different religious groups believe is their spiritual truth is almost a complete accident. One's own spiritual certainty is a matter of geography and parentage and yet it is that absolute truth for which so often one will die and kill others. One is lucky indeed to have been born in the only truth, which ever one of the multitude of only truths it happens to be, among the multitude of only truths out there for the choosing. Clearly there is something about human beings that demands that whatever claim to truth they just happened by circumstance to have been raised to believe is the only true belief, that will be the faith cannot be questioned.

I think most of this is due to the fact that the Danes who did it did not understand how serious Muslims take the "no idols or depictions"...and as seen by this, it is VERY serious. This is probably why those people got death threats (which are WAY out of line, but I see why they got them) I myself would probably go out and protest it as well. Go look at arab religious art...you RARELY find people in it, and when they do depict people it is usually unimportant/ "generic" people. Arabic art is LARGELY foucsed on patterns and designs that do not involve pictures of humans (mainly because we can't say WHAT the Prophet Mohammed looked like exactly. Yeah we can assume he looked like an arab, but nothing more than that)...
It has even passed into english and one can make a mention of something having an "arabesque design"

They have the right to draw what they want to. But I have the right to protest day and night until they issue an apology and burn the pictures. They won't comply, but atleast we will be both exercising our rights.
As for the Muslim who drew a naked pic of Virgin Mary in Brussels, he will face God for doing something as sick as that~ Virgin Mary is easily the most imporant and esteemed woman in the Quran.
And dahunan, the Prophet Mohammed died just like any regular human...because he is just a human like the rest of us, and we are all equal before God's eyes. That and please show some respect dahunan...it isn't like anyone here is tossing insults on Christian doctorine, so I don't see what are you accomplishing. I'm not asking you to beleive, consider, or even spend your time looking at Islam...but I don't see how some of your comments contribute anything to the discussion~
