Assholes refused to match the price on a camera I bought, so I go to return it, and they want a $37.50 restocking fee. They should at least state the fee upfront before purchase. Pisses me off because I called within 2 hours of buying it to PM, and was told to fill out a web form and wait for a reply, which I have never received 2 weeks later.

It says there is a stocking fee in their standard return policy on their webpage. When you check out, it notes what return policy is applicable to the product you are buying with a link to the return policy.

Cry more. Learn to read.

It says Restocking fee, but not how much. IMHO a 15% restocking fee on an item new in box in this day and age is ridiculous. Especially as it was their lack of customer service that led to me not cancelling the order before it shipped.

They have to charge an unfair restocking fee to discourage people from returning CPUs with an unwanted stepping/mfg date or a video card that doesn't have unlockable shaders/pipelines and crap like that.

Yeah, blame them for your ignorance ... that's the ticket.
Maybe asking about the pricematch before buying instead of after you paid for and received it would have helped?
15% restocking fee is not unreasonable.

Except Newegg only offers a price guarantee AFTER purchase. Thanks for reading.

I thought 15% was standard fare everywhere.

I buy online A LOT, and quite a bit of consumer electronics, and I've NEVER paid a restocking fee. Hell, even Best Buy has done away with restocking fees on ALL products, and previously they only had them on laptops and a few other things.

BestBuy charged a restocking fee on cameras as well. I sold them.

When and why are restocking fees applied? How much is deducted when a return is subject to a restocking fee?
There is a restocking fee of 15% on all returns for refund (RMA Refund), unless waived by a Customer Support Agent. We charge this 15% restocking fee for all returns for refund to encourage customers to purchase products they intend to keep. We offer RMA Replacement without any restocking fee to support customers who have received a defective product. For CPU and Memory refunds, any restocking fee we use will be a reflection on current market value for the same cpu item. Newegg.com does not support attempts to profit from CPU and Memory price fluctuations.

Quoted directly from their FAQ. Looks like your only chance is to get a Customer Support Agent to waive the fee.

wait, the camera was never opened?

Well, techincally they don't have to offer a return policy at all so they are allowed to put whatever restrictions on it they want. Not saying I agree with a restocking penalty on an un-opened item though

They should, otherwise just tell them that you will dispute the charge and go to your CC's website when you get off the phone and reverse it.

Shop first then buy.

Expect all prices to go down tomorrow.

Don't expect all merchants to offer price matching.

If it was two hours after ordering, why did you not simply cancel the order? In my experience, it takes them more than 2 hours to run your credit card and they certainly would not have shipped it by then.

I did shop first. Newegg at the time I bought appeared to offer the best price. Within 2 hours I found it $50 cheaper elsewhere. Newegg refused to honor their Iron Egg guarantee, which is only available after purchase.

LOL, so you'd think. I called customer service to do the PM (as the price was cheaper plus Newegg has no tax, but the other site does, so that was a bonus). The rep told me I had to fill out thew online form and that a special team handled the price guarantees. I specifically stated I wanted to make sure the PM was going to be honored otherwise I would cancel the order. The rep assured me they would respond quickly. Within 10 minutes of me calling, my order switched to "Packaging", meaning it had allegedly been sent to the whse for shipping and could no longer be cancelled. This was at 10:00pm on a Sunday night....not likely. I suspect the CS rep changed the status to keep me from cancelling.

well yeah, but I always thought restocking fees were only for opened items. I thought pretty much all big retailers had some kind of 15-30 day return period. interesting...
