Drastic drop in Numbers

Anyone have this happen? Two of my machines have dropped from 1.6 Mkeys to less than 486kkeys over the last week. Rebooted daily, 1010 client,HD always on???
Ideas?

Check for Findfast, or other pigs running in the background and if you're running 3D screensavers, kill them.

Thanks Russ, no joy there. Nothing is running in the background, except anti-virus
benches on the money but crunches is suck..any other thoughts?

Are you also crunching OGR by any chance? If so, add the following line to the end your ini file:

[misc]
project-priority=RC5,OGR=0,DES=0,CSC=0

Then delete the OGR buffers and restart the client.

Acutally if it isn't an anit-virus program, maybe it is a virus. You should check, especially if these machines are networked to others 🙁

Yep, I found an "under-achiever" by looking at my Pproxy... Went from 1.4Mkeys to 800Kkeys. A virus was the culprit. A quick scan and it was back to normal. 😀

Hey - isn't this the magic formula??!!

System admins - RC5 is a useful tool for monitoring system performance. Detect viruses before they infect your network!
😀

Let's see, we have the RC5 client used as a: CPU monitor, active internet conection creator, stolen cow tracker, and now a virus scanner. This program gets better and better all the time!😀

A most useful tool for sure. All networks should have it.
I found no virus, of the two affected comps, got one fixed by a cold boot and
updating the client, restart and killing ecerything except systray...
but a PIII 550 doing 97 units in almost 24 hours....

smokin1,

Do you happen to have any benchmarking software to check the CPU performance besides RC5? If so, is it up to speed? Have you checked to make sure L2 cache is enabled?
