Larry, is DDR2 ECC ram compatible in non-ECC boards? I remember them not being compatible in my s939 build, but not so sure with DDR2 / EP45 chipset.

It's unbuffered,same as regular DDR2 desktop RAM. The only way it wouldn't work is if the BIOS detected ECC in the SPD, and locked it out from working. But so far, so good, haven't had any trouble with the systems I've put it into. It just ignores the ECC bits.

about a year ago I got some 12gb ddr3-1333 kits off amazon for $135 each. They were OCZ gold 6x2gb kits.

My that do you mean that 95% of people never used the 4GBs, and now 99% of people won't use 8GB? ;)

all my machines have 4 gig and at any time i might use 1/3 of that memory. i think we may need a new operating system to justify these new memory prices...

have/are prices really going to go down or are the 4gb sticks just cheaper. it seems like 4gb is still about 90 and 6 gb is about 140

I have learned my lesson from the DDR2 massive price drop. I will buy as many cheap ass sticks of DDR3 I can get my grubby hands on this holiday season.

High five to that! September 2009, my 4GBs Gkills cost $95 and for the rest of the year they rose to $135 and even $140. RAM prices tend to fluctuate. The hardest part is grabbing chips at the lowest point before prices go up again.

Currently we are at $144.99 for a 8 GB (2x 4GB) 1066 set.

...

In fact, in just 6 days the cheapest set of 8 GB DDR3 has decreased from 144.99 to $130.99. :awe:

Pshhhhhhhh. Those prices are too expensive ^_^

Newegg has 8GB (2x4GB) Mushkin Enhanced Silverline DDR3 1333 Desktop Memory for $145 - $15 with code EMCZYZR55 - $20 rebate = $110 with free shipping.

==

If I can get 8GB 1600mhz kit for $80-90 by the end of the year, I'll probably grab one.

I am so glad I decided to switch from my trusty E6600 to an i7-920 last May.
$199 i7-920, $130 EX58-UD3, $40 1.65V DDR3-1600 6GB kit, $135 4890 => pretty danged inexpensive 4.1GHz monster.

I just picked up a new 4gb (2x2gb) set matching my current ones for $64! Having 8gb will surely be sweet. :D

16GB for $180 isn't bad at all. Too bad even 8GB is arguably overkill for a gaming desktop, 16GB is just way beyond what's necessary. But when memory gets this cheap, it's almost like "why not?"

Wow, I use DDR2 in my system. I might want to stock up so I have some RAM whenever I upgrade o_O. So cheap for 8GB
