Yeah, there really is no validity to the "give him a chance" sentiment. It's never going to happen. A 70 yr old with textbook NPD, no grasp of facts, no interest in learning, isn't going to just magically change his spots one day.

I think it's pretty clear the reason why liberals misinterpret situations come from assuming everyone values facts & such. This isn't surprising since western liberalism came from intellectuals/thinkers whose worth derived from knowing things, but clearly those aren't the only type of people in the world.

So when liberals berate natural conservatives for getting the facts & basic reasoning wrong, it literally has negligible effect---about as much as the latter accusing the former of not being loyal enough.

When Trump announced draining the swamp, that latter all know it never meant taking out any corruption or whatever but rather putting more in in favor of them, which is why not a single one is surprised about things turned out. See, concern about corruption in the abstract is what thinkers do, which is not exactly what anyone would accuse loyalists of.

It occurred to me that this liberal vs conservative argument is a lot like ford vs chevy. Each side will have its loyalist fan boys who will spout the virtues of their particular brand whilst ignoring any truths to the contrary. Each will swear by their chosen brand to the end but at least we have a choice in the matter. It could be like North Korea where people are all ordered to believe and behave in particular ways. That Kim guy is certainly gaining weight while his people starve to death.

Is Chevy the one that values intelligence and knowledge? The one that wants to constantly learn how to do things better? Is Ford the one that values loyalty? The one that doesn't care how dirty you play as long as the end result is Ford retains power and Chevy loses it? Or do I have that backwards?

Of course people like to think they're right but you'll only see one side ever addressing matters with arguments fundamentally rooted in facts and reason (instead of tradition and loyalty), and thus could be persuaded through such means. This division is hardly arbitrary for the historical reasons mentioned.

Well Chevy (GM) had to take a taxpayer bailout so no. Ford is abandoning the V8 in search of greater efficiency throughout their entire lineup. It took the government forcing GM to close down several divisions in order for them to begin thinking anew. GM shipped production to China and then started exporting those models back to the US. GM used women to advocate their anti-union positions during the early 1930's because the workers wouldn't lift a finger to harm these ladies groups they'd hired to do their dirty work for them. BTW GM has made the worst quality vehicles I've ever owned.

Back when labor unions were gaining popularity in the early 1900's Ford deployed what was called the "Service Department" which was a group of hired guns to rough up union officials to deter workers joining them effectively keeping them out of their plants.

Ford used psychological shaping techniques on their workforce and their $5 a day wage increase wasn't honest at face value once you look beyond the veil and see that they were requiring that workers families participate in company run education programs that were part of the wage package. Their instructors would come into the workers homes and the entire family would have to participate in their instructions in order for the worker to receive the $5 a day wage, otherwise they were paid at the lower rate. Ford has produced the highest quality domestic vehicles I've owned apart from the Toyota Tundra I used to own.

Funny thing is that now Ford and GM are in partnerships to lower costs through the joint development of products starting with their new 10 automatic transmissions. Am I brand loyal? Nope and I'll buy from whomever is delivering me with the most content at the time of purchase. I've owned GM,(Buick, Chevy, Pontiac and Oldsmobile), Ford, Toyota, VW, Nissan, Dodge and Kia. In a nutshell I don't advocate either one but would be more inclined to buy a Ford over a GM product based upon my past experiences with them.

In a nutshell this liberal/conservative moniker is just an illusion that some people hide behind like a security blanket to make themselves feel better about their choices in life.

we're going to need another swamp at this point, the old one's clogged up.

"Hey, we couldn't drain the swamp after all. It turned out to be a protected wetland and only remaining habitat of the Money-grubbing CongressCritter. You're welcome environmentalists!"

This is perhaps the thing I find most hypocritical about the GoP. They claim to rail against hand outs but they're really just against hand outs to the poor. When it comes to their friends they're just as generous with other people's money as the Democrats are.

If you haven't figured out yet, the GOP is all about calling out others about doing the very thing they themselves are doing. Its their number one go to play.

If you want to know what the GOP is up to, just listen to what they are according others of doing.
