105mm x 6.48 = 680.4

Digital cameras, however, have different focal lengths because the size of their image sensors vary from digicam to digicam. So, there is a slight discrepency! 😱

Nice, big SONY CCD in there, eh?

yea all the Nikon DSLRs use SONY CCDs except the D2H which uses Nikons Labcast CCD the D2X actually uses a CMOS sensoc made by SONY

o and the conversions for DSLRs are different then P&S cameras

ALL nikon DSLRs use a DX sized sensor so the Crop factor is 1.5 on all of them, the D2X also has that nifty 2x crop mode

the Canon DSLRs have crop factors that range from 1.3x to 1.6x or none on their FF full Frame sensor

What do you think of the pic my friend took?

Looks like it's coming out of its "skin"
That is how they mate. Joined together for the um, impregnation followed by flying around until she is ready to lay the eggs. They fly attached and she drops them one by one into the water. He does all the flying when its egg laying time.

What camera?
I'll ask him. I just know it's a very expensive manual focus deal with a big ole lens on it.
It's a NIKON D100 shot at 105mm focal length (35mm equivalent of 680mm).

I can see a DSLR in my future, but first a quality video camera. I know the bodies are going to drop in price, but the lens are ALWAYS going to cost big bucks.

OK, Ornery how the HECK did you know the exact type of camera he was using?!?

You either:
a) really know you cameras and photos
b) are telepathic
c) actually are my friend who took the pics.

Note: It was a Nikon D100 with a 105mm lens.
