Hi,

I seem to be having some problem using large hdds with my dragon. I purchased an IBM 60GXP 60GB drive. Dragon would not init the dma channels ! So, I returned this and got an 80GB maxtor hdd. Soyo recogonised it and I was able to use it. However, I have noticed that Windows XP takes about 5 mins to boot and during the installation of Windows XP, formatting till 1% of the capacity took around 4hours !!!!

So, I got one more hard disk. This time a 40GB IBM HDD. Windows XP installed in a jiffy and boots in 8 secs !

Any idea what could be the problem with the HDD issues. (Looks like anything larger than 40 Gigs is an issue)

Athlon XP 1600+
Dragon (with the updated bios)
GeForce MX 400 64MB
DVD Drive
CDRW Drive

I have all the default settings in the bios (all are set as auto) except for the FSB and the boot-up sequence.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a 60GB 60GXP and I had absolutely no problems formatting it or installing win 98 SE and win XP. Is it possible that both of the drives you tried previously had issues? If it wasn't for the fact that your latest drive seems to work I'd say you got a bad ide controller but now I'm just confused.

Same motherboard. UI had 2 IBM 60gigs running in Raid and switched to a Maxtor ATA133 with a Promise ATA133 controller. No problems.

Boot up time are very slow on this board with any set up..
