To be honest though, cynicism and hope aren?t the emotions that Dragon Age: Origins instilled in us when we went hands-on with it. Instead, what Ray Muzyka?s presentation and our following play-time gave us was a sense of dread.

Pure, cold and clammier than making love to a beached octopus, the prospect of Dragon Age: Origins as a PC RPG and spiritual successor to Baldur?s Gate left us feeling very worrisome indeed ? because judging by how successful BioWare has been in achieving this, we may well sink twice as many hours into Dragon Age as we did with BG.

For the record; that?d be at least a couple of hundred hours of tired eyed and girlfriend-neglecting playtime. That?s why we?re afraid of Dragon Age: Origins.

Looks promising...

yup til November '09

:(

yeah very they have pushed it back so many times. I knew it wasn't coming out Q4 '08 but then they changed to March '09 which seemed reasonable. Now its like a lifetime away.

All signs pointing to this being very much worth it so I can wait

The game is complete according to the devs at Bioware, EA is telling them they can't release the game until the port the game to consoles and are giving them 8 months to do so.

From what I've seen this game is going to be amazing. You have 6 origins to chose from, each being a completely different play experience. They are recommending you to play through the game multiple times to see the world from a different light, the life of a noble, a commoner, an oppressed ethnic minority, etc. Baldur's Gate 2 has the second nominal highest score ever at Metacritic (compilation of all online reviews) and I figure Dragon Age will eventually unseat it as the best RPG of all time.

I know some don't like hearing it, but will this have the standard EA DRM?

If true that sucks so hard I just cannot adequately describe it. I mean, PC gamers get screwed so bad it's unbelievable. When console games come out, we have to wait a year to get them for the PC. Now we have to wait a year until the game is ready for the consoles?

Fuck...

No. The game is sufficiently done that two months of pure crunch could get *some* version of the game out the door.

I'm sure traditional Bio polish could be achieved by summer, but that's not much more delay until November anyway.

Damn! i was hopeful since Gamespot still says release date is March '09!
But yes, this game is going to be EPIC even if the plot will be *insert-ordinary-fantasy-plt-here*

They also delayed The Sims 3 when they announced a delay of Dragon Age, the Sims 3 is a PC exclusive. Therefore, there is the "possibility" that this is not the main reason, but it is likely that EA believes that if you do not do a simultaneous launch on all platforms (or delay the PC launch), everyone will just pirate the PC version. Expect the PC version to come out a few weeks after the console versions if this is the case. As stated earlier, let us hope that they do not do a "re-imagining" of the gameplay to make it "friendlier" to the console audience.

If it is the case and they are delaying the PC version in order to finish the console versions, then it would be amusing if someone leaked only the 360's version before launch and showed them that piracy exists on consoles as well (like someone did with Fallout 3).

But the Sims 3 was only delayed a little bit. The delay was to move it into the next fiscal year since the current year was a huge loss, and they hope to have a better year next year. Dragon Age is being delayed much longer so it's obviously not just for the same reason that they delayed the Sims 3. So a simultaneous release with the console version is the most likely explanation.
