I want the game, but can't decide on system and if I should just cancel Halo: Master Chief Collection.

I thought the same. I have PC/PS4/XB1, and will just pick up Dragon Age for PC (master race!) and keep my Halo preorder. :D

Never played or cared about the franchise (came out during my EA embargo, and I'm just not a huge RPG player), but I'm always glad to see when a big game folks are pining for gets high marks, so this is a good thing for the consumers.

Of course, pretty much every EA product (sans NBA Live) gets high reviews, take feedback from other players not review sites.

Dragon Age 2 also got high reviews and was extremely hyped.

I'll wait a month or two after release after the bias dies down and people take an actual critical look at the game.

Not to mention, if the game is as extensive as Bioware says it is, there is little chance these reviewers more than scratched the surface, the same way they didn't run into a lot of DA2's faults because they didn't play more than a few hours.

Although maybe people liked DA2 on consoles, since it was designed for them.

Yeah Bioware is selling it as large and deep. Anyone reviewing it immediately has played the story through and that's it. For some that's enough, for people who were really into DA:O maybe not.

You'll are a bit negative don't ya think? I liked 1, 2 wasn't great but not horrible, everything I've seen on 3 looks amazing. Can't wait for the xb1 version.

I played on PC with a controller and enjoyed the game immensely. What was wrong with it?

Inquisition looks amazing. Like a next gen game that I actually WANT to play.

The game is up for trial on EA:Access (Xbox One). I probably clocked over 200 hours on Origins and maybe 10 hours on DA2 (wasn't a fan at all), both on PC. The DA:I trial was the first time I've played the series on console and tactical mode definitely takes some practice but the game seems to be a nice mesh of DA:O and DA2.

So far I like the game quite a bit and will be picking it up but I'm not sure if I should get it on XB1 or PS4.

What was wrong with DA2? Shallow as hell, repeat of environments, felt very small. It was basically awful.

Eh, I guess. I didn't like the repeat of environments but I enjoyed the actual gameplay. It was nice though to get VERY familiar with one city. Felt like it was your home.

I wouldn't say that makes the game "awful" just felt "small" but even then you opened up new parts of the city and it was a lot of "city fighting" so I didn't dislike it.

No demo available? Yea I have both systems now and will always have to deal with the dilemma of what system to get games on.

You quoted a post from the year 2000 from a different thread?

How'd you manage to do that lol...

No idea lol sometimes the thread id gets mixed up.

Seeing how the game is 1080 vs 900 on Xbox i don't think I'll notice much difference. I'll have to check psn to see if there is some sort of demo.

Just a difference of opinion. I thought DA2 was pretty bad and feel the same way with a lot recent Bioware releases. The last Bioware game I really enjoyed was DA:O.

For me...
DA:O - Great
ME2 - Decent
DA2 - Bad
ME3 - Bad
TOR - Very bad

This was made worse by how egotistical and overinflated Bioware devs have gotten recently. From reading their forum posts to even talking to them in person, they are super douchey and full of themselves. But really it's the fault of the fans. When thousands or millions of people tell you how awesome you are and how flawless your work is, it's bound to happen.

Full Game is available for play on EA Access for Xbox One owners. Just a heads up to those who can't wait.

DA2 was the first Bioware game I played. I really just liked the combat system actually a LOT. The other complaints, well I had those complaints as well but the combat system won me over that much. I'm sure if I had played their other games I would complain too.

I'm 99% sure DA3 will make me FAR happier than DA2 ever did. But well like you said it's all based on opinion. I thought Dark Souls was the biggest joke of a game ever yet people applaud that piece of junk consistently. Any game in which I essentially start off with one of the most powerful weapons in the game and the "combat system" (which is supposed to be so deep, yet I literally hit R2 all game with a Zweihander and was essentially unstoppable) is a joke to me. God there are so many flaws in Dark Souls I could write a novels that would make LOTR novels feel like a children's book in length.

It's like full action party except you can pause and switch characters. The combat system is extremely interesting once you start it and get into it. It's the reason I liked the game actually. You do automate as well from what I can recall from DA2. It's just a really interesting system:

Haha, interesting. Dark Souls is my favorite game of the last generation (2006-2013). It does all come down to personal preference.

Yeah, if you like DA2, I don't see any way that DA3 could possible be worse or disappointing to you. It had a lot more dev time put into it and looks to be better than DA2 in every way.

No reason to pick up new weapons (Zweihander, I got it already... why do I need anything else?), barely a reason to pick up new gear, only need to hit 1 button to kill things because the Zweihander and great swords in general stagger EVERYTHING.

I mean the game was horrendously unbalanced. For an RPG it made ZERO sense.
What RPG has a combat system that is a JOKE (1 button to win)
Has a item system that makes exploration almost useless since you basically start off with the best weapons or the best weapons come to you VERY quickly
"hurts you" when you die but in reality all you do is kill the same mobs again, come back and double up your cash. There are just too many flaws with Dark Souls, but the game had a cult following before it was even launched, was marketed as "hard" (really? My brother would just run past all the mobs and then all the mobs would proceed to throw themselves off a cliff chasing him. What mob can't figure out how to just walk along the path?) etc.

I've watched a LOT of people play games as I love watching someone play a single player game. Watched ME series, Bioshock series, etc. Dark Souls is the only game I've fallen asleep EVERYTIME it was on. We both played the game and at one point we stopped switching off between eachother's saves (because I kept falling asleep while playing anyway) and he just brute force beat it.

I'm sure it feels fun if you're "afraid to die and lose your souls" but if you aren't remotely afraid to die (there isn't a reason to be....) then it just becomes easy, way too easy. The AI was the weakest thing ever in that game and was the game's downfall.

But well like you said different strokes for different folks. DA3 looks amazing from the screens I've seen and I'm pretty sure I stopped playing DA2 for the reasons you guys mentioned (repetitive environment). Game was so fun, but every place looked "the same" and it never felt like I actually went anywhere. I liked exploring the city and unlocking parts of it but eventually I wanted to go other places.

I'm very excited for this game as well.

I love me a good RPG and Bioware is pretty much the best at RPG's today. Bethesda just can't get the dialog down which is what always drug down their games for me. Bioware gets the narrative better than anyone and knows how to create a whole world around it while also giving you some form of choice even if it the choice is still fairly limited. Mass Effect for its negatives got the world feel right for pulling you in to actually care which is why people were so angry over the ending.
