I'm pretty sure that describes every video game ever made.

You're just being dense.

It's one thing to borrow inspiration, or have something resemble something else, or even look familiar...

It's another to have the dungeons look exactly identical to each other, to literally reuse the same exact layout over and over again and PRETEND it's not.

Please. Let's not be pedantic. DA 2 takes it to a level that's brutally inexcusable.

It honestly didn't really bother me. Dungeons in video games are always 99% the same. They just didn't bother changing it that 1% and put their time somewhere else. It annoyed me the first few times but I got over it. The reason for this is I genuinely enjoyed the characters/dialogue in the game and I looked forward to every combat I got into. DA:O made me hate combat after a while. Every fight turned into an inconvenience making the game quickly feel like work rather than fun.

Awful, awful game. Just terrible. I did invest 40 hours in it and beat the game, but that just shows how much a huge fan I was of DA:O.

I gave it 4 hours. That shows you how big a fan I am of not having a sh*ty time playing a game. It is absolutely one of the most disappointing games I had ever tried to play. The worst thing isn't that I hated it, I suppose, that it pissed me off, but that it did nothing for me. I just didn't want to play it. I started to dread even turning it on. It was soulless and stunningly bland.

ME can be a little cut and pasty, but DA2 reuses literally the same dungeon and concretes over a doorway.

Anyways, anytime I read someone I liking DA2, inevitably they're in the first act. We'll see how you feel after the deep roads.

So apparently you are one of those gamers this POS caters too. Got it.

Do you hate thinking or abhor any effort to reward ratio? Because if you, then DA2 is for you! Don't think just mash those buttons!

As an MMO player, who is used to making multiple runs through the same dungeon, this actually isn't that big of a deal.

I do wish though that they did a better job with the environments that are there. THe streets in this game are oddly desolate.

Also, DA2 feels like a proper sequel to the KOTOR games, actually. the ME games with the 3rd person shooting weren't the same in combat as KOTOR.

And combat is quite good. Very very good, actually.

Wow, this is funny cuz I was just thinking of buying one or the other off steam or the EA store. Am bored and the new games I want are a couple months off yet.

For reference:
I loved Baldurs Gate 1.
I would marry Baldurs Gate 2 and get it pregnant.
I did not like Neverwinter Nights.
Neverwinter Nights 2 was a big improvement but still mediocre.
KOTOR 1 and 2 are still some of my favorites and I've been playing through each at least once a year.
I liked the story of Mass Effect but didnt care for most of the game play elements especially the combat.
I hate all MMO's and I despise grinding away at generic quests.

Would I prefer Dragon Age 1, or 2?
Or should I get both?
Or neither?

Considering every skill has a cool down and you can only select a few skills I'm not sure what you are talking about. There is little to no button mashing in the game. Maybe you were playing it on easy? My biggest complaint with the game was that you couldn't outfit your side characters in custom armor. There is tons of gear in the game that you can't really use because you can't put it on your other characters. Lastly your tone of elitism just makes you sound like a whiny nerd. It's just a game, you don't have to devote your life to it.

I actually liked that decision. I mean, I don't micro my other party members that much. And their unique looks are important. And you still can upgrade their armor if u know where to look.

And combat is really satisfying. It's like you control an entire world of warcraft party, from tank to DPS to healer. It's actually kinda cool.

I really didnt care much for custom equipment in NWN 1 or 2. I spent so much time zoomed out it really didnt matter. And crafting was just such a hassle. KOTOR 2 was a lot better. The junk you built was genuinely useful and could be swapped easily for the situation (droids or humans or jedi).
Actually, since it was behind the head 3rd person they could have benefited from cosmetic changes more than NWN.

I blame xbox 360. Lots of games are dumbed down graphically and gameplay wise so that it is playable on both console and 360. I can't even play Oblivion on PC because the controls are clearlyl meant for xbox and it's so damn hard to navigate menus. Hell, I can barely equip spells sometimes. I haven't updated though so maybe some of it has been fixed.

You do realize you posted this is the Console Gaming sub-forum, right?

DA1 is for people where gaming is their life, where as DA2 is for people who just enjoy a fun game.

DA1 battles took thought, DA2 didn't. Elitism and whiney? K, you keep enjoying shiney objects. Oh and DA2 didn't have "just a few skills".

I thought the combat in DA2 was much better as well. More suited to a console at least.
