http://nationaljournal.com/politics/ron-paul-launches-presidential-campaign-20110425:
Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, whose outspoken libertarian views and folksy style made him a cult hero during two previous presidential campaigns, will announce on Tuesday that he's going to try a third time
Well, I'll give some cash to his 2012 campaign, hopefully more than I did last time (hopefully $300 this time; I gave a total of $55 last time).

So, Gary Johnson is also going to be running, which means you've got one belt way/CATO libertarian candidate and one Paleolibertarian candidate running for the GOP nomination.

Is Dr. Paul going to get more votes this time than last?

I'm thinking Gary Johnson might win (I don't know that Trump is serious anymore, Huckabee can't raise money, and I've heard that no one is guaranteeing Romney or Pawltney support), especially if Dr. Paul is able to get a lot of votes to give to him. I know that if Johnson does get the nomination, it'll be over for Obama. Hopefully, GJ will pick Rand Paul for his running mate if he gets the nomination.

I also think a far-leftist may make a large campaign in 2012, since Obama has totally abandoned the pro-civil liberties base he once had. I know there are a lot of disgruntled people who voted for Obama in 2008 (I warned them in 08, as I saw right through Obama unlike so many other people). Like Gore, Obama deserves to lose votes for making some efforts to deceive leftists, or for at least not telling the media that they were portraying him in the wrong light.

I like Ron Paul, but I have no dellusions he will get anywhere close to winning.
You are crazy if you think Gary Johnson will win either.

The republicans will elect a big government guy, someone like Romney, and lose to Obama in the general IMO.

Ron Paul is one of the most consistent and honest politicians there is.
This makes him unelectable in America.

The era of big government is not yet over.
The course we are on is working out just fine, we need to continue it, obviously.

Now see, saying something like this makes even people who would tend to agree with the point of your post in general (me) roll their eyes at your smug oversimplification.

I don't think Dr. Paul will win, but Gary Johnson was governor of NM and he's more open-minded/less principled than a paleolibertarian is. OTOH, he was elected governor before 9/11, so Romney is more likely to get the nomination. He certainly has the establishment behind him.

My prediction is and remains, Ron Paul will get less support than he got in 2008.

And in all those crucial early primaries, once again, the Ron Paul candidacy will melt far faster than snow on a hot stove.

His message has more validity now than ever before. IMO of course.

Maybe exactly the problem, Ron Paul will be running in the GOP primaries where Validity is never a GOP voter currency.

Why do you keep calling him Dr. Ron Paul?

He may be a doctor, but that really has nothing to do with him becoming President.

Ron Paul should get the honorary status of a Hold Stassen. Every GOP convention, someone should nominate him for President so Ron Paul can get his ego moment in the sun. And then all honor and ritual satisfied, everyone can go about their real business.

Wastes far less time that way.

DOA Candidate, he will not even make it into the top 3 in the (R) primaries, for that matter, neither will anyone running with Palin.

That being said, we have elected far worse than Dr. Paul.

Sounds good to me, Obama surely will be happy with all the help he can get. Now we only need to convince Nader to fuck off.

Having Ron Paul as President would be the best thing to happen to the middle class in this country in 40 years.

Which, of course, means it will never happen.

Meh, I'd vote for him over a phoney moderate republican. 2008 was the last year I was willing to vote for "the lesser of two evils".

That being said, we have elected far worse than Dr. Paul.

It's true he has little chance of winning. But if we don't try, and get him a good 20%+ chunk of the vote, we'll be stuck with the same two moderate liberal offerings over and over again.

Like Communism, Libertarianism is just Utopian drivel.

Never once in the entire history of the world, no any country on earth bigger than a few mud huts has had anything remotely resembling a Libertarian Government.

But its easy to imagine for countries that have built impressive infrastructure, that the very infrastructure a libertarian government never builds, will continue be maintained and expanded when the Libertarians take over. And also easy to imagine that without government regulation greedy corporate abuse will vanish.

Such is the drivel I admit Ron Paul wholeheartedly believe in. The problem is it won't even meet the sniff test of even a half baked fantasy. Libertarian has never been tried before and for a very good reason. But its an appealing fantasy just like the tooth fairy.
