they use goats here to clear hillside brush before fire season. They put up electric fences and let the goats go at it.

I'd love to do that with my goats during the summer. $$ for me, free food for the goats, someone else's weed problem taken care of. win-win-win. All it takes is a $100 solar fence charger, ($200 for a very good one), a ground rod, ($10), fiberglass fence posts every 8 or so feet ($1.19 each), and galvanized or aluminum wire ($15 for 1/4 mile of fencing wire - just bought a spool about 2 weeks ago.)

Maybe you should get a really wide brimmed hat, a sheepherder's crook, and forgo the fence. You can spend the idyllic days of summer surrounded by fainting goats and a thermos of lemonade.

There is this company in the bay area that does this.

In fact I just saw them a couple weeks ago driving home from work, eating the brush from the side of the highway.

I think its a great thing they do. No soil damage from pesticides, and the brush gets taken down before fire season.

So Dr. Pizza - Administrator, Elite Member, and now Goats Shepherd? That would be cool, unique, and being green.

I wonder if any electric fences with a goat that couldn't get away have started any fires themselves?
