Man. Right now, it's about this woman... who had a container of acid thrown on her. :Q :Q They threw it through the windshield of her car...

It basically ate her face away. If she wouldn't have been wearing glasses, she would be blind.. The acid ate through everything.. the interior, the plastic.. the FRAME. :Q

What kind of acid do you think they used? I would imagine that she could have very, very easily died... If it can eat through steel, it can certainly eat through bone...

Insane. I hope the people that did it are caught, but it doesen't look good..

This happend to my grandmother in the 60's in Sweden. 🙁 Thats how we came to live here, my grandfather was a maniac.

Hydroxides are even worse. I used to work at Oscar Mayer in sanitation scrubbin fat and meat off of machines....we used strong NaOH

Sodium Hydroxide.... dissolves fat and protein in your skin....burns like hell....

I saw a similar story on the Maury Povich show. This beautiful lady had a jealous and abusive boyfriend. When she tried to leave him, he ended up disabling her for life with acid. 🙁
 
god that's scary.

it happened recently around here on halloween. some guy was coming home and there was a man in a mask on his porch that threw acid in his face and ran away.

This is worse then the time a woman had her face slashed couple of times in the bus. The fscker used a blade to cut open her face from the back before he got off.

Nah. If it got in your eyes, you probably wouldn't be able to open them.. and it would sting like hell, but it certainly wouldn't be life threatening.

I was just thinking of things that would just be a major annoyance, not outright kill you. Could add ethanol to the list.. acetone. None of them are going to eat your flesh.

Methanol in your eyes is a bad, bad thing, though. 😛

My gandfather was a NAZI/police chief during and after ww2 and abused all his children/wife his whole life with no fear of his actions. we have been back on several times but never visted him. After my mom&dad, her brother and mother escaped he married a thai ( for a nazi lol) woman and abused her too. I thought about killing him but he died in 86' before I was old enough.

So if I swallowed some gas, I would be fine? For some reason I am just having a hard time believing that getting gas thrown in my face would not be cause for me to go to the hospital...

If you swallowed some, that may be cause for alarm, yes. It would depend on how much. I've gotten gasoline in my mouth plenty of times, but if you drank an 8oz glass.. you would probably be advised to see someone. Having it on your skin is no big deal. Just wash it off with soap and water. You must not work with gasoline much. 🙂 There are far more dangerous chemicals.. you probably have some under your kitchen sink right now.

HCl is probably the most readily availible to most people, so my bet is on that one. Like Gobadgrs said, hodroxides are pretty scary. The last chem lab i did had a warning in it about NaOH causing severe skin removal. That was kind of scary, glad we skipped that since I would be the guy to burn his arm off for sure
 
Ugh better than acid..Thermite litten by magnesium ribbon, will eat through jsut about anything.... SOme on a hood, goes througt the hood block and axle if it hits it.

Yeah you f'ing try it, prank? Throwing gasoline in someones face? I hope that happens sometime so you can get an idea of just how much more than a "major annoyance" it is.

There has actually been a couple cases of that arond here, guess where the persons responsible ended up?
Jail, for assault charges.

We had a similar attack in my area. It actually killed the woman. Turned out the guy threw one of those Giant Big Gulp Plastic cups full of Lye at her face. Killed her man. Lye is nasty stuff.

Calm the heck down, he was just saying wtf can't these idiots throw gas instead of acid. I personally would rather have some idiot throw gas on me than acid. Although I'd end up shooting their kneecaps out.

Why is there always somebody on this forum that does not get it.
