I think the only thing keeping his show alive is Oprah's money. My wife is watching the show right now and its completely hideous. Dr Phil is a freak.

All he ever asks the guests is " do you want to change"

If they reply yes, the audience claps, he sends them off the show, and then he starts asking more screwed up people the same question.

He is a pretty smart dude.

I saw a show a couple of months ago called man camp. He told the cheating stripper wife that she had to quit stripping and lose the boyfriend if she wanted to save her marriage. I would have never thought of that in a million years.

You seem surprised. In today's industry, when is skill or talent directly equals to fame and fortune?

It's all about perception, image-control and branding.

Look at the music industry. Look at the top money makers. They're not the truly skilled song composers and singers. Britney makes more money than more talented musicians.

As big as Dr. Phil is, I've actually never sat down and watched an episode. One time I did because an ex wanted to watch it. That doesn't count though, since I was only pretending to pay attention...

I saw a show where a woman wanted to know why her husband has lost sexual interest in her. She's on the show, about 5'4 200+ lbs. A damn cow. Then she showed pictures back when he was happy with her: She was hot, about 110 lbs. Now 200+ lbs. No brainer.

"Dr." Phil goes on this long winded bullshitfest about how love is a complex emotional blah blah blah. Never once did he even brush the subject of her weight, when it was totally obvious what the problem was.

He's a damn fraud.

She makes a ton of money off of one of the highest rated daytime tv shows. Dr. Phil gets a handsome salary for talking shit. Gets four or five book deals. Mrs. Dr. Phil and Son of Dr. Phil get book deals and they both appear on the show talking shit. He may be playing a moron on tv, but he's well paid moron.

dr phil simply states the obvious in most cases. People just want to hear it from someone "professional" or "famous" or have their problems exposed on national TV(i never understood this one) and look at how many people he's helped!

Give the man credit. He's helped a lot of people, and he carries a lot of what people need these days.. a good dose of common sense.

agreed. it seems that any dumb dumb on the corner could say the same things he does.

as for the national television exposure, it seems that sometimes people on divorce court do the same thing. go figure.
