I've always thought it tasted like a diluted mixture of licorice and chocolate with a lot of sweetener added.

Our whole family was hooked on DP for years, but when they went to "23" last year and changed the packaging they also changed the sweetner from cane sugar to corn syrup and we can no longer stand the taste.:( Drinking Coke now

..always liked it better then coke. but too much sugar so I don't bother with any of them.

Yeah...but I do drink diet...

So chemicals are better then sugar?

Yep, I like ingesting chemicals that my body doesn't know wtf to do with so therefore no calories :)

I wish stevia was used as a sweetener in Diet sodas, it being natural and calorie free, and just as sweet as sugar makes it a more logical choice, than ingesting chemicals.

Everything you ingest regardless of the source are chemicals.

It was changed to HFCS in the 80s, with the only cane sugar DP bottlers being 3 in Texas, one of which is famous for Dublin Dr Pepper. AFAIK, every bottler other than the aforementioned 3 switched over to HFCS by the turn of the decade. Placebo effect?

Nope, we live in TX and all our DP here in the Metroplex came from one of the three you mention. Now it's down to the one in Dublin and unless you drive to Dublin it's almost impossible to find.

Yeah, the other two switched in the middle of last year. I think a shortage drove the price up which prompted them to switch. I never thought about ordering online, I will definately check it out:). There are a few places around here that stock the small bottles of Dublin DP but it sells for like $5 for a sixpack:(

*edit*

Here is the link to buy online, the price is actually not bad but the pack/shipping is a killer
24cans $10+$5packaging+$9.60shipping= $24.60. And thats shipping to DFW, I'm sure it's more to other parts of the country.

Old Doc's Soda shop

For those that have never had REAL DP, I highly recommend trying some.

Up until last summer I could pick it up at Walmart for $2.50 for a 12pk:(

Its not real sugar cane there putting in there...

Your getting chemicals either way. 1 makes you uber fat, the other your body goes "wtf?" so enjoy either way. :)

Aspartame > Sugar > High Fructose Corn Syrup (used in Dr. Pepper/all other sodas in the US)

also it originated and is headquartered in Texas where Dr. Pepper is extremely popular. once every few years when my grandma drives through Dublin, TX she picks up a couple 6 packs in glass bottles of the pure cane sugar DP they bottle there, its great.

having migrated to Las Vegas its slightly less available, the convenience stores rarely keep more than 1 or 2 12-packs of diet dr pep., pisses me off

but that was nothing compared to trying to find one while backpacking in europe on the cheap
