What do you think of Dr. Death? It's been almost two years since this topic was discussed . . .

Myself, I feel if a person is terminally ill and wants to be put out of their misery, that's their choice. I saw my grandmother suffer with Alzheimer's, bed-ridden, unable to talk, feed herself, or use the restroom, for three years before she died. The look in her eyes . . . sometimes I could see her looking out, but unable to express herself in anyway. But with people who can't communicate, I guess it becomes difficult to decide what to do unless they have a living will.

One of the troubling aspects is this is the growing philosophy in bioethics that, in my mind takes it to far . . . where people are beginning to believe that persons who are handicapped physically or mentally, or are otherwise unable to live life to the fullest, should be eliminated. This is something I find strongly disturbing . . . it's called utilitarian bioethics.

Seinfeld quote (from what I remember):

"I don't get Dr. Kevorkian......aren't there any high buildings where these people live?"

All legalities aside, I'm watching someone suffer from terminal illness. The look in her eyes tells me all I need to know.

-This would be disrespectful to passerby's and whoever had to clean up the mess. It would also be nice to have a "known" painless method to die with.

Nobody has an opinion of utilitarian bioethics? You might ask how it relates to Kevorkian, but it's simply the next step up the ladder . . . I refuse to call it the next "logical" step.

I think what he did was a good thing. If those people really want to end it then they should be allowed to without anyone interfering. He also plays some pretty good jazz.

I'm all for it.

Oh, and about those disableds, if they want to stop living, then they should able to kill themselves or be killed. If not, then leave them alone.

I'm all for it, and I also think it shouldn't just have to be from illness only, if life sucks and someone wants to go, let em.

Can't we just put them to sleep, like we do with animals that no longer have a use for?

Sure, it's sad, but they aren't doing anything other than prolonging (inevitible) death (and grief), wasting human resources, and burning up money unnecessarily.

Good topic, I say.

I dunno about you guys, but if I ever get an illness like that, I'll kill my self before becoming a vegetable.
