Dr. ATOT -- pain lower right abdomen

So for the last 2-3 days I have had a mild on and off pain in my abdomen, mainly the lower right side about two inches below and to the right of my belly button.

It is a very localized pain, feels like it might cover an area only about 2 inches wide. It feels "inside" and it could be described as a sharp pinching. Sometimes it has a slight throb to it as it comes in and out.

It is sometimes gone for as long as a few hours, then comes back.

In the last few days I took a Pepcid AC and I have had pretty bad acid reflux. I also took two fish oil pills, but that was a couple days ago (normally don't take em).

I am under a lot of stress lately...

Should I run to the doc tomorrow or wait and see on this one?

New symptom -- pain on the upper RIGHT side of my chest that occurs when I take a deep breath. Same sort of pain as I feel below, but only when I take a breath.

I'm going with, "Go See Your Doctor" FTW Alex...

Edit-It could be many things, from a change in diet to appendicitis, which is life threatening.

It's definitely not lupus (it never is), I'm going to say tapeworm. Check your B12 levels.

no
Well then I'm going to go with appendix for my official "Diagnose someone over the internet" wild-ass guess. I would see your doctor ASAP, especially if you've had the pain for 3 days already.

I'm going to have to go with your diet. Stay away from caffeine, coffee, carbonated beverages, chocolate, and spicy food. Take milk of magnesia before bed for the next week. Get plenty of fiber in your diet, green leafy vegetables, fruit, and any thing else with lots of fiber. Stick to a bland diet and basically eat healthy. If you experience loss of appetite, fever, vomiting anytime soon it could be your appendix in which case you should see your doctor. I will PM you with my bill.

I had my appendix burst. At first I thought I just had really bad gas, and just ignored it. 2 days later I woke up at 3am with a serious chill like I was going into some sort of hypothermic shock (if there is such a thing). 3 hours later I was on the table.

It can definitely creep up on you.

You went into shock and would probably have died w/o modern medicine... scary..

appendix...

Mine managed to get caught up on a rib or some ****** (don't remember it was when I was like 10)... Every time I lay down it stretched and I threw up... So every night I blew chunks everywhere... Finally one night I turned white and threw up bile etc until I basically passed out... was taken to the hospital, etc.

Any other symptoms? Any fevers, chills, shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness or lightheadedness? Changes in your urine or bowel habits?

Does it hurt to push on your abdomen? Does it hurt worse if you push and then let go quickly?

Basically what I'm getting at is that you could have something serious or it could be something minor....really hard to tell without a decent number of questions and a good physical exam (followed by a large laboratory and imaging workup if indicated).

My recommendation: Go to an ER ASAP, especially if you are feeling any of the symptoms in the first set above.

In fact, I'm on call RIGHT NOW, so I'd be happy to see you at my hospital.

MD.

Could be gallstones as well. Or possibly a kidney stone. Or something with your Liver. Or Pancreatitis.

Dr. House would be able to better diagnose you over an Internet forum post, though.

None of the above, although I've had a headache all day and felt a tiny bit dizzy.. but I've felt that way since law school started 6 months ago. No bowel movement today, which is unusual. No pain if I push.

Where is your ER?

Appendicitis is indeed one thing its possible you have & its potentially serious enough to warrant a visit to the none-ATOT medical team asap ... even with modern medicine its still indeed a life threatening situation if it ruptures, because it can lead to severe blood infection which can kill you.

I wouldn't panic because the odds are its severe constipation or somthing similar but make sure you get to a doctor tomorrow at the latest & if the symptoms get any worse tonight, head straight to the ER or call 911!
