the computer learns from the simulation that had a higher efficiency

as a result, it can now better 'tweak' it's future simulations to achieve more efficient results than before. as soon as those results are submitted they are added to the sample file which the other end users start downloading and begin achieving higher effeciency results of their own :D

it's like a big shared-knowledge factory.

the worst thing is seeing one of those 5 run muons start out of the box and if you edit the queue.txt file you can see the score as it goes along. i had one yesterday start out at 10.850 but then in the end it was just 8.422 so i was needless to say disappointed :(
