DPAD- Using best250.dat?

hey all fellow DPAD members,

{if not go here! 🙂 http://www.stephenbrooks.org/muon1/}

are you guys running the best250.dat? or just allowing the algorithm to continue outputting better results based on your personal trials?

using the best250.dat reduces results by alot (requires more time) but apparently more particles are simulated and thereby higher points are achieved..

so do u guys have the best250.dat loaded or not?

🙂

I was reading up on the website about the whole program. basically each time a *WU* is processed it gets saved in the results.dat file...

the results.txt file is simply a temporary file until u upload the results..the results.dat file saves the best *thousand* or so results....The program then uses these *best* results to try and create better and better combinations...hence the better the combination the more particles analyzed and the more points generated per Work unit....

the downside is that more time is spent on each work unit b/c more particles are being processed....

hope this helps!

also: version 5.0 should be coming out around easter that will up the ante on the kind of combinations and analyzations b/c right now the tests have more or less peaked in significance...i.e. the data has reached that level where it is just proving itself more and more.....or so this is what i understood from my reading
🙂

and yes, i just began running w/ the new results.dat file (i simply copy/pasted the best250.dat results into my current "results.dat" file) and results are taking longer but truth be told more particles generated
😀😎

I only have 1 *WU* completed even though its been working for about 12 hrs..think another one is almost done. the first one went from 36000 particles normally to 56000 however......

and maybe its b/c my computer has been in heavy use these past 12 hrs..

my first unit did improve my muon from 0,88 to 2,99...

It takes a lot longer, about two hours or so for every workunit.

Been using it for ages........ remember when it used to be just a best 100 file.....

If your thinking stats wise, using the best 250 file will mean you return less work-units, however the amount of simulated particles is not adversley affected and this is what the stats are based on.

this one WU is taking 6 hours instead to complete. the previous ones would be about 2 hrs..of course i went from .2% transfer to 2.9 ..and from 36000 particles to 58000......

oh and extra pts. are awarded for the % above those in best250.dat...like 1.2% over, 1.4 % over, etc.

running 1.2 ghz tbird, 786pc-133

running command line version

EDIT:...ok my upstairs p30-450 did 2 WU's in the time it took my main pc to do 1. i know times can vary alot but one WU was 36000 particles w/ 1.9% transfer while another was 50000 particles w/ 2.1 transfer......

hopefully this will be a great WU w/ a high transfer! it appears it will be only 35000 particles....what's going on here? hopefully i just had a hard combination this time b/c its quite odd for a p-3 450 to beat a 1.2 ghz tbird...must've been the combination..

stormgiant: how many particles u running per WU? And how long did a WU take b4?

edit v2.0: 3 WU's magically appeared completed in my folder once that one ended. lol..i got a .00006 transfer, 2.82, and a 3.02 😉:Q😎:Q😀 maybe we can get in the top few transfer wise 😉

before it was about 10/15 min... dunno the right number, but it did much more than 130K / day....

particles range between 29000 and 59000.

hopefully one friend will allow me to run it on his 1.8ghz p4, another on his athlon 1800+, once i get my gf's pc running (where's that g'dam ata-133 pci card Xp driver disk 😀 ) , and once her mother gets a brand new systeml....hehe..

i like this project. it's small, plenty of room to move up stats' wise, and i think the idea (specially possible transmutation of radioactive waste) is worthwhile.

yes, i also think like that.

It has a very good point for us doing it, if they are trully honest 🙂

I think we should move our entire fleet from rc5-72 to DPAD.
It would also give us the habilite to kick DPC butts 🙂

i dont like the whole concept behind rc5-72...someone mentioned that it might take ~1000 years to find the proper key unless by pure luck it comes up... worthwhile ..i said nothing! 😉

Very true. To me personally, medical projects are the most "useful," but this one is very "useful" as well, and its client works well in many situations that a medical project wouldn't. 🙂

That is very much a personal decision on the part of each team member. Trying to recruit members from other projects within Team AnandTech is usually not looked upon very highly.
