It's OK guys... I probably fired him from one of his former low-level datacenter jobs... considering I built 18 of them.

If that was <yawn> supposed to be an insult - I'm underwhelmed. Thanks for sticking up for me BMC. However... it was Digital Equipment Corp, and Compaq. Dell? :Q

At any rate... I don't think we need to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed man - so let's retire the rhetoric in the public arena.

One can say what one wants about car salesmen. We're only one step above the lowest of the lowly (lawyers) - and I'll likely go to law school after I tire of this gig, so that I can experience living at the absolute bottom of society. I'll make right around $8K this month, so I don't feel too terribly bad about it. What you do is what you do, not what you are.

After 15 years in the I.T. business... I could use a break, and I'm really enjoying the change of pace -- I haven't heard the phrases "going forward" or "one-off" or similar drivel from an over-caffeinated barely post-pubescent nerd who couldn't troubleshoot his way out of a wet paper bag in quite some time. It's quite refreshing, actually.

Let's just stick to the job at hand. Crushing the opposition.

I dealt with MANY problems with D2OL during the first year and it was no easy thing to stay with the program, but we stayed the course because of the integrity of most all of its members. Snot slinging adolescent bickering and team hopping just takes away any pleasure left in a project, especially when stats are not reliable. You should be able to enjoy doing your project that you finance and budget the equipment for. :(

Christian,

I think the post in the DPAD forum is just more rhetoric. I certainly don't condone it, but have seen this
before from many angles. I think that both sides are having trouble keeping what we are doing in perspective.
I think Mastertech summed up situation pretty well.

I see Stephen is considering fixing the team point transfer issue. I did vote for it. I think it would be
effective to rezero the stats as well to level the playing field.

In any case, what's done is done. Good luck in your DC endeavors.

Regards,

Fritz

Edit...By the way, stan has edited his post on the DPAD forum and apologized to DanC for his comments. This is in the spirit of our forum rules in which we allow or members to criticize ideas, not people.

One thing, if the stats are zeroed, I'm leaving DPAD! I'm not gonna stand by and let my hard crunched results turn to NOTHING! I'm getting more pissed off by the minute! :|

Keeping stats with the team they're crunched with works well for many projects, like Seventeen or Bust.

I have voted for "Stats stay on team they're crunched with". Of course, individual stats would be your own total, and will stay with you.

I highly doubt that the stats will be "zeroed" - that's more extreme than taking back points transferred.

I suspect Stephen has had a gutful of the whole jumping thing - but isn't going to make a career of working on it.
Simply ending the ability to jump around with points solves the problem - and it's not like leaving them where they are now will have any effect on the outcome of who ends up in 1st place.

Let's ratchet down a couple of notches ok? ;)

Hi, My name is Larry and I am From US-D. Lets remember that its not the points but the science thats worth our hard earned money. Yea, the points are nice and I gotta say that I miss them also. But lets stop the squabble over the points and whose team that they go on. You lose some and then you gain some, We lose some and then we gain some. Every team goes through it, but do we need to call names about it? You are not going to stop people from leaving cause it's their right to do so when and if they want to. We lost some big crunchers to another team, all that was said was that we hope you have an enjoyable time and keep on cuunching. No bad sprits, cause if they are going to leave they are going to leave!

I feel the fact that jumping ship and taking the load with you is very foul, and fail to see how it pushes forward the fun of crunching. You are with a team, it belongs to the team. You can crunch alone, no one is forcing you to crunch on a team. If your ganna move around why bother being on a team in the first place?

Its not enjoyable in the least. Well it will be soon :)

Mechx - you're dasmed RIGHT. ;)

I find it curious that we're being scolded on OUR forum by a teammate of the one who did the "name calling" on another forum. I suppose logic isn't part of this whole thing.

Soon Gentlemen... Soon. You're going to be totally amazed. I guarantee it.

Well, not to defend US-D, but I think that - after sleeping a night over the whole thing - we should just call it a day. I mean, there were problems, namings, insults .... OK. But hey, when I remeber being a young kid I also did everything fair or unfair to be better than my older brother ... soemtimes it worked but in the end he usually always surpassed me. And that's what's gonna happen to US-D. Let them whine, struggle, whatever. We pass them anyways. The just lengthen what is inevitable. And like I did as a small boy, they try with any means. But big brother is watching you, US-D! :D
