DPAD Help?

Kk4JC

Senior member
I'm trying to run DPAD, and when I launch it, it tells me that I need to have a users.txt file in my muon1 directory.
What muon1 dir? I tried making one (in the current folder) and the file, but to no avail.

Thx,
Kk

ok basically you take the original ZIP folder right....

unzip it to say your desktop....

now go into THAT unzipped folder (should be muon1v421b)

in the folder there will be various FIles....Right click on an empty space and Create a new Notepad file..

name it user.txt

go into user.txt and type in [TA]Kk4JC

and your done..!!

run the muon1_background...

use the MANUAL_ send.exe (in that folder) to send your results every day or so

and welcome to the team. i will post more after u get crunching 🙂

when i said name it...dont name it user.txt...create a txt file and name it user...type [TA]YOURNAMEHERE and save it...

also when you unzip the file to WHEREEVER u want it to be...make sure you unzip the entire folder at once...dont unzip piece by piece and change the order of the files. just unzip the entire folder somewhere and then just create a txt file named user in the main folder (the one just unzipped and named muounv142b)

btw are u running graphical version , command line...

It's not that I don't understand, it's just what it does.
But I think the second part should fix it.

yes. it is imperative u keep the unzipped folder like it is. outside of modifying it by adding the txt file w/ your name in it as already mentioned.

also,

dont run muon_1 b/c the graphics take up valuable cycles....either run muon_1background...or the command line version (<--- background is unobtrusive while command line offers text as to the amt. of particles left /total @ given time)

congratulations and welcome to the team!!!

are u using the command line version, the GUI, or the background version?

background/command line = fastest

remember to send ur results using manual_send every day..or 2 ..or 3 just incase HD goes bad or something else....

in the config.txt file u can set priority to B ...= background (only when program can take resources will it)

and u can set auto-save from default 180s to 60 s...

oh yes...have u gotten best250.dat

basically all your results are saved in results.txt and results.dat...when u upload ur results the .txt file is deleted. the .dat file however remains...

as u gain results the algorithm modifies itself to produce better and better muoun transfers and to analyze more particles as a result..the higher the transfer + particles the better it is..

normally this is a self-running process. the best250.dat file however gives u the best 250 results as of october. these allow you to sort of get a "jump" on things...

download best250.dat from www.stephenbrooks.org/muon1 its at the very bottom of page...unzip it and open it w/ notepad...

if u already have a results.dat in ur muon folder COPY..PASTE the best 250 into that file and save it...

if u dont (say b/c ur first unit hasn't finished yet) simply copy the best250 into ur muon folder....

phew...

Thx for the info, and in answer to your questions...

I run the background version, I dug through the config file and made those changes already🙂.
I will get the best250 when I can.
