Downsizing shop and cars and taking road trip

manimal

Lifer
Havent posted much in garage over the last few months and wanted to let my ATG peeps know I closed my shop last month. Lost my best tech to a dealer and my tinter to my biggest competitor. Just didn't want to start over training a new crew again. Going to slowly transition over the next year and open a small boutique classic and exotic dealership. I am looking for a pole barn somewhat close to my house so I can do some interesting builds. Turning off the lights at my shop for the last time last week was pretty rough guys.....

Right now to console myself I am building a Donovan 400 aluminum block with pauter rods and pistons to be named later. I am in the process of downsizing my collection. I dont need 9 cars right now. Sold off three so far and just picked up a 73 C3 Corvette and a super T10 and a S14 to drop a LQ4 in later this summer.

I am taking a month off and taking a road trip in either the Z, the Vette, or possibly the s13.

So what does ATG think? Which car should I complete and take on a road trip?

. If you guys are interested ill post up some picts.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO and S13 no. vette no only real option is the Z. grand touring car FTW they were not nimble but thats what makes them amazing highway cars! come up to the North east JCH and i can show you some pretty epic roads!

can you make a cobra? And then I can meet you @ Laguna Seca. And then you can let me race it through the corkscrew at speed

sorry to hear about the shop

ouch sorry about the shop man 🙁 but good luck with your next idea! definitely would like to see pics of what you're going to offer.

also pics of your current ones 🙂

That sucks. We all lived vicariously through you and your shop work and I dream about having a garage like yours. I hope you find happiness in this next stage of your life.

Probably will end up being the Z but if the LS is ready for the S14 than I may have to drive that since it will be all shiny. I have three small kids so leaving for a bit isnt sitting well with the wife right now. I told her I wanted two weeks so I could settle for 1.
As a shop owner you know it broke my heart a little.

that sums it up pretty well lol

Get a factory five kit and ill build it for you and deliver it! If you are going to spring for a Cobra kit may as well go for a factory five GTM. I already have the porsche running gear in storage /whistle
I lived in socal for almost a decade and I miss all the good tracks. I miss all the great roads even more.

Tough to hear, but you know that these things usually work out for the best. Feel for you, and hope things turn around quickly!
Thanks brother.

thanks man. I will get some picts of the cars this weekend when the s13 gets back from the body shop and the Corvette gets put back together. Havent messed with a carb in some time ><

I really appreciate all the kind words guys. Once I get settled this month I do plan on putting a LS into my S14 and putting a full sharkbite suspension and steeroids on my 1974 vette and see if I can make it turn half decent. In the next year I plan on doing some sort of kit build though the term really should change since cars like the Factory five GTM are really ground up full cad designed masterpieces not VW based stuff from the 70s.

I love the Z cars. I've got a z31 myself, but I absolutely love the 240z. An LS1 into a 240 would be a hell of a ride, that's for sure. Once I'm done my Z I plan on purchasing another as a project and it will likely be a 1973 240z. Unfortunately I'm not sure exactly which Z you have, but I imagine it is a 240, 260, or 280 and if you're doing a road trip I recommend you take that Z.

I guess I'll have to get a spare MR2 ready, then. 😉
Nice!! If you ever happen to be near indy you can drive all of mine! Ballmode came by and drove a few of mine a few months ago.

great to meet a new ATGer!

I also have a Z31 turbo 1984, the z32 TT, a 240sx s13 with a rb20 with 88MM pistons and the 240 s14 I plan to LS swap so I do have a nissan problem. I did just sell my sr20 s13 but having another s13 made it alot easier. I was close to having all the Z cars for a little but I just sold a few. Really want to do a 240z but thats gonna be a while.

Yeah, the 240z is just a beautiful car and I am very much a lover of the fairlady line. I hope to grow a collection myself though I know it will take a long time, especially with how the older s chassis Zs will grow in rarity as the years go by. I love meeting other Nissan guys on forums, especially when I least expect it (such as here on AT).

I have my 86 NA Slicktop right now and I am trying to bring it to almost new condition. So far I have only rebuilt the engine and installed new front struts and power steering, but I have all new/great condition interior parts coming in as well as new brakes, rear struts and springs (have them already actually), and I will be having the syncros replaced in the transmission as well. I don't know why, I just really love the body styles and the feeling I get driving these older Z's. I am trying to get a z32 for my girlfriend too actually to get her interested as well, haha.

🙁

I did drive the Z32 and it was sweet. The low end torque and smooth pull really made my WRX feel wimpy and made me yearn for more power.

I'd have to cruise in the Z if I were you, although the S14 a close second.

What about the 818? :hmm:

Still a few years away for me for sure.

And the Z. I'd love to own a early 70s Z and restomod it with a VQ35 or RB26..

if you end up shooting west on 74 Ill buy you a beer man. its just a 2 hr drive 😛

good luck sorting it out and moving on

Its too bad you're so far away. Jlee and I would have drove by for the weekend just to hang out and shoot the shit. Fridge and TV, right next to the lift heh. Heaven.
