Downloads in XP vs 2000 (Kazaa, Morph, DC, eDonkey,...)

I currently have two computers, running windows XP Pro on one, and windows2000 Pro on the other. On the XP, Kazaa and Morpheus are VERY slow, and programs such as DirectConnect, Blubster, and eDonkey don't even work at all on it. On my windows2000 machine, all of these programs run fine, and I get way better download speeds from it.

Does anyone know why this could be happening??? The XP computer is much faster, and I would rather be using just the XP machine. I am going to reformat it soon anyways - do you think I should install XP or 2000?

Any ideas/comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, I have downloaded serveral of the speed utilities, but that isn't hte main problem. What I am wondering is why the programs don't work with XP. They claim to.....but they just don't seem to work right.

I dont mean download utilities, I think its a reg hack. But anyhow...

What kind of errors do you get?

Sorry 🙂 Yeah, I meant the registry hack things that allow you to change the registry values.

Well, the programs start up fine, but for instance with Kazaa, the max "bandwidth" I get fom anyuone is 302. On the 2000, I can get 1000+. For eDonkey, I can never connect to a server.

I don't konw why this would happen....maybe I'll just re-format and see what happens...

Just did that tip to increase my bandwidth in XP and now I can't connect to any servers in Unreal Tourn, or Quake 2, or anything...

Humm.. odd.. it worked fine for me, as well as other people I know. Are you sure you didn't enable the built in XP firewall?

well I rebooted and everything seems to be fine now. I dont think it was the tweak, but Im not sure why that happened.

BTW I see no difference with the tweak on or off.
