Downloading Linux + Splitting RJ 45's

Ok, my first question is, I have two computers in the same room. There is only one RJ-45 in that room. I know I can get a switch, but is there any other way to have this RJ-45 splitter, or something that shares internet connection, and LAN connection?

Also, I want to uninstall WIN XP, and install LINUX there, can anyone point out to me some sites to d/l RH 9.0 or < of it

Thanks for your help I appreciate it

You don't "split" a single connecting wire. You use a hub, switch, or router. A Linux box can easily work as a router, providing NAT for your IP connectivity if you desire. While it's routing, you can use it for whatever you'd like.
