downloaded mysql and workbench. now what?

I bought a 'teach yourself in 10 minutes' sql book that has a lot of great reviews but I'm having trouble setting up the software to even get started.

I'm using a macbook air on this.
I downloaded mysql and my sql workbench and got it installed. The book that I bought has links to some free scripts and datasets that I can follow along, but these are all *.exe files. Since I use a mac, I'm unable to open it.

I'm searching for some sample scripts or tables online so at least I can input some commands, but I"m not finding any. I don't really know what I"m searching for actually. Am I searching for 'sample data' in xls files? dba files?

Any suggestions? I just want a small set so I can practice a bit.

Did you check the publisher and author's websites to see if they have the data sets and scripts as XML and text files?

If the author has a site, you could also email to ask that they be posted as zips not exes.
