Downloaded and AVI file

The codec packs install a more than necessary amount of them. It's easier to keep track if you just install the ones you need. FFDShow is one great big codec that plays everything. It is not a codec pack, it just uses one library that supports a vast amount of formats including divx,xvid,H.264,mpeg-2,ANYTHING. And you can easily uninstall just that one program.

What player are you trying to open the file with? If you've installed those codecs shown and are unable to play it it's entirely possible you'll get different results depending upon the player. I usually start with media player classic.

http://www.kickassanime.org/wiki/index.php?title=Compack is the codec/player pack I use btw, and includes some basic player options.

edit: is there some reason why you wouldn't update directx? Hit your "start" button, then select "run" and type "dxdiag" without the quotation marks and check the result.

This is what GSPOT said

The AVI repair programs work fairly well. If you want to leave me a PM I can upload the one I use when I get home from work.

YOu mentioned re download, this is an avi from limewire, would it make a difference if i let it download completely instead of trying to preview it 12 percent into the download???
