Download from Newsgroup and evrything is txt files!!

Umm.. this is a first, I use xnews to download files from newsgroup
but i don't know why, all 500MB worth of file , supposely be in rar form turned into .txt files
tried change the ext. into .rar , won't work , anyone know why ?

EDIT: now i need to find a decoder for the txt files i downloaded, anyone know anything about decoding those files ?
xnews suppose auto decode it for me, but i messed up, so i saved those files in the orinigal form. ANYONE

EDIT: I FOUND THE YDEC decoder.. dunno if it will work alrite or not :|

What program are you using for newsgroups?
If you say Netscape or Outlook Express, this conversation is over until you get a decent newsreader.

The best software to use are Forte Agent for general newsgroups and NewsBinPro for heavy duty leeching. Both support yEnc.

Forte' Agent v1.91 and newer automatically deal with yENC. Free (and fully functional) for 30 day trial. Works for me.

I use Grabit. It deals with all kind of files including yenc files. It's very easy to use

He said he was using Xnews. It is a good newsgroup reader. It handles Yenc fine.

Most likely either the post was messed up OR it was dropped off the server but you have xnews caching headers. Are the text files actually somewhat decent in size?

latest version of xnews supports yenc. i'm guessing whoever posted screwed it up.

Yes, yes, yes!
Selection not quite as ample as a P2P program (e.g. Kazaa) but a thousand times more reliable and efficient.
Unlimited amounts of pr0n, mp3s, isos, etc. are all at your disposal.
Not that I condone such things.

Its really fast, because it is like getting them straight from your ISP. I can dll off of them at 200+ kb/sec.

As far as a program to use, I have found XNEWS to be a good one. It has automatic encoding into the files from the txt files.

just make sure all the parts of hte files you are trying to download are there, I.E. in the column that says (x/x) make sure the #s match.

awww.. stupid me, i save the everything as watever it is . I press F6 to save instead of F4
now i have to find a decoder try to decode those txt files.. anyone know any ?

everything i downloaded is all in txt files, you know how each file have like 50 lines or watever
i have 50 of those txt files, now i need to find a program to combine them together into 1 files ...
tsk tsk tsk ...

ANYONE ?

Agent is best because you can tell it to decode automatically and it won't even try unless all the parts are there.

Got a bunch of files to slap together?
If they are text, and assuming they are named sequentially, go to a command prompt:
COPY *.TXT NEWFILE.TXT

If you have binary files (i.e. an MPEG that has been split into pieces):
COPY /B *.MPG NEWFILE.MPG

man, i remember my nuB days of txt files in usenet.. oddly i quickly solved that problem with a decoder.
