Tracker for demo discs to showcase your HT/surround sound setup, courtesy of bob4432
Please post comments/suggestions/thank-yous.

-------------------------------------------------------

Original thread:

Granted, I don't have an expensive HT system or anything, but I have a set of Logitech z-5500s. Before I talked to this person they weren't even quite sure what a sub was for. So I basically want to blow them away with a good combination of movie scenes and music, stuff to emphasize the capabilities of a powerful sub and five speakers. Suggestions?

UPDATE: For those of you interested in hearing some good stuff as well, bob4432 has offered us a torrent tracker of demo discs courtesy of a forum member from AV123. Here is the link. http://bob4432.sytes.net:6583/ Please go and check it out!

Lord of the Rings is always great to play. Especially the epic mountain scenes, and definitely the battles.

The best way to impress him is to play a song that he listens to regularly so that he might be able to tell the difference. If you're just playing stuff that sounds good, then you can play just about anything and he probably won't care. You said he has no experience with good sound systems, so chances are that he won't notice that the sound is so awesome unless he can compare it to something that he listens to on a regular basis.

crank it up nice and loud and play him "black" by 'pearl jam' off the 'ten' album ... i'm not a big pj fan, but when that bass kicks in at the beginning, it just sounds beautiful. the drums from any Tool song off the Undertow album will sound fantastic too.

movie-wise: Predator - the scene when they are mowing down the jungle

I will ask what kind of music he likes and see which of these movies I have around. Still open for music suggestions, stuff that just really fills a room well.

I am also looking for a good song, something above MP3 quality obviously and don't care about the style of music, heck it can be a symphony. I just want to hear what people think would be the immersive sounding audio they've heard (music).

You know, one of those songs that you can hear the strings of the insturments etc.

You are thinking the depth charge scene in U-571. I agree, that scene was pretty intense, and will work great for the OP.

You can dl some DVD demo discs from an AVSforum member.

Get disc 5 first, it's a good mix. The Flight of the Phoenix scene was the highlight of the several of these discs I've gone through.

do you have disc 5? if so do you know how to do a bt? i have a tracker setup here at home that works excellent that i have no problem giving you upload permissions to (i wanted to see how they work, and it is still up) and then we could get disc 5 out to the peeps that want it pretty quick.......

War of the Worlds, lightning zap scene when tripod firsts start zapping people.

The second time the flashes start when they are sleeping in the basement gets intense too. I experienced this in a theater equipped with motion simulation and a special track of LFE effects and it felt like the room was going to completely tip over.
