Download all pics from gmail?

I can't believe there is not some simple way to do this, but googling really hasn't provided any answers.

I have a ton of emails dating back years and years with pictures in them. I want to be able to just easily "save all" somehow, but apparently nothing like that is available?!

Does anyone know of any trick to pull this off?

Thanks in advance.

This may be too basic, but if you don't need it someone else might.
If your gmail is not IMAP, make it so by entering your online gmail page in a browser and go to; gear icon/ settings/ forwarding and POP/IMAP and select IMAP.
The bottom of that page has instructions for setting up Thunderbird.

After setup when you startup Thunderbird it will sync with your gmail.
