"Downgrade" video drivers?

Guys,

I just did an upgrade to my system (EPoX 4PEA+, P4-2.4GHz B C1, 512MB PC2700, Asus 9280/TD Ti4200 128MB). Tried the nVidia reference driver during install, but had to use supplied Asus driver disk, due to error message re missing file.

My question is this - the Asus version is 31.40. I have a game that requires 30.82 or earlier. Can I do the technique of setting vid back to standard VGA, then do a reference 30.82 install, and not end up w/ vid driver issues? Oh, the game that needs this - Links2001 golf. Da_n thing won't run w/ nVidia versions later than 30.82.

TIA,

Jeff

techfuzz, thanks for the reply. Yes, I tried the 1.21 update, to no avail. This is a common issue/problem w/ both 2001 and 2003. Hardly a day goes by in the Links2001 newsgroup w/o a post re nVidia driver issues. My only concern about rolling back the driver centers on whether Asus tricked up their drivers to the point that a rollback would cause problems.

No problem Jeff, I figured it was a well known issue although I had to offer the possible simple solution just-in-case! You've probably already seen this MS KB Article, haven't you? Have you tried the newest nVidia reference drivers? They're up to 43.45 now. Also you might try updating your DirectX to 9.0a (I think that's the newest).

If all else fails, I guess you could go back to 30.82 or earlier.

MS KB Article - This one is kind of interesting. It singles out Asus and Aopen manufactured nVidia based video cards, even though it is for the 2003 version.
