Don't know about ever increasing. I personally think the US is at the start of a decline of standard of living.

Life expectancy lower in US in 2008

Wages, after inflation, lower during 2000-2010 - longest period in US history

US poverty rate highest during the 5 decades stats were kept.

Don't need a link for this one: US debt going through the roof.

I think our children, on average, will live a lower standard of living compared to what we live today....and an ever increasing global labor force will only reinforce that hypothesis.

Whats happening is the definition of middle class is changing. Blue collar is becoming a historical footnote.


In regards to the Original post the way I look at the current climate I think of what I have to do on a daily basis in my three careers...

I have to balance the budget first. Worry about long term debt after the house or business is in order.
