Down comforter too hot?

I like the feeling of something heavy on me when I sleep, but I live in LA and my room is never less than 68 degrees. My down comforter is often too hot, especially on my legs. However, it feels OK on my torso.

I keep my room around 70 degrees usually.

What sort of cover might be better? Would cotton keep my torso warm enough?

This is what I have now: http://www.ikea.com.sg/products/product_display.asp?id=579

UPDATE: WOW. The one I have now is 48 oz of down!!! The new one I just bought is 28 oz!! I will never be too hot again!!!

Called a "warm quilt"

They also have a cool model.

I'm the exact same way (outside of the dead of winter.)

I've always uncovered my feet and used them like a radiator so I'm comfortable and happy.

What's really annoying is a normal polyester comforter is too hot in my dorm room, and I have my window open 24/7.

I keep my house at 75, keep a down comforter pulled up over my head, and still usually wake up freezing my ass off :(

Do you have a cover over the comforter? That may be holding in extra heat depending on the material.

I also sleep better with sheets untucked.

Whoa! I wonder what that kind of heat costs per month. We keep things at 68 during the day and then it drops to 62 right after bedtime. Back up to 68 automatically before we wake up. Progammable thermostat ftw!

Anyone ever order from The Company Store? They seem to have lightweight covers.

Wow, count yourself lucky. It gets crazy cold here in the Northeast, and in my dorm they don't keep the heat on through the night. I often go to bed with my feet freezing, and it takes a while for them to warm up in my blanket (which is also cold). I'm thinking of getting some kind of portable heater/heated blanket or something.

I have this model. I just preogrammed it today. We'll see how it goes.

I've never had a down comforter that was too warm. I'm always cold. Where did you get the one that was too warm? Name or model number? Thanks.

Heaters are for the weak. Wear a jacket.

I'll take that under advisement.

Your body is 0% active = prone to getting colder.

Trying to sleep at 68 degrees? You'll be shivering your ass off. Remember those beautiful summer days where you can sleep just with your boxers? Yea those are 80-85. Not 68.

I can sleep at 68° just fine.

At 80-85° in just my boxers I'm sweating like crazy. I keep my place around 74° in the summer.

Everyone is different. We like the air temp cool, but sleep with a HEAVY down comforter. Other peeps freak out if the air temp is below 74. Chattering teeth and so forth.

Heh true. I'll wear shorts outside until it starts getting below 20°. I start needing a jacket at about 5°.

I'm the same way, although I'm fat, so I have extra 'layers' already. I recently moved and had to work in the garage when it was around 25 degrees. I was in a t-shirt and shorts, but it was my hands that gave up the ghost. I could only work about 45 minutes before they were completely numb and I had to go back inside.

Last time I wore pants was at a job interview. July 2005...

Nice. I've found mine to read a couple degrees too high it seems. It'll say 75, but in reality I think the room is closer to 73. You notice anything like this?

My new house (see sig) will be geothermal with electric backup, and at nearly 10,000 sq/ft it'll be too expensive to go over 72.
