It's being offered on for DeviantArt.com, but anyone can get the ISO... I remember it being here before, but I missed out.

Don't know how long this will be around for tho, get it while you can :)

Is there a way to get around the requisite for a credit card? I don't mind giving them a credit card, but the website says it keeps it on file and I do not agree with that.

when you get to the first page that has the shopping cart items, click on the "apply coupon" button, and apply the coupon code:

idodeviations

then continue which will show you a total cost of $0.00 on the next page. Click the "process Order now" button.

Now the next page has a small paragraph and says this:

"To get your digital copy of LindowsOS 4.5 immediately, log in to your My.Lindows account at http://my.lindows.com, and go to My Products: CD Downloads. You can then download and create your own .iso of the LindowsOS 4.5 Installation CD."

Click on the link (http://my.lindows.com) it gives you inside the paragraph, do not click the continue button. You will then see the "My Products" on the left hand side... fairly easy after that.

Thanks, they appear to have changed the process. I previously signed up for the free Developer's Edition and I am sure it wouldn't let me download it without providing a credit card number for the CNR trial.

It is very tricky, I missed out the previous time it was offered for free, and I could not find the link that allowed me to download it. It is easy to miss if you do not read all of the info on each webpage.

If I recall, I think the laptop install has power saving features for a laptop... not sure what else is there, but I know that it is tailored for laptops' power features.

I am pretty sure the Lindows people would disagree with using Torrent as a method of redistributing their product. Just because they are currently giving it away for free doesn't mean it's freely distributable.

yup i doubt they would like that but I'm sure its all over the P2P filesharing networks and elsewere allready. If they were able to stop someone from sharing it someone else will step in and do the same.

Who cares what they think? Maybe the people that wrote the millions of lines of code that they base their business on disagree with what they're doing with it - but it doesn't matter. As long as the license allows for it (I'm assuming that the free ISO only contains freely-redistributable software), so be it.

As far as I understand, this is the full commercial version. Lindows is fully allowed to create and sell software, for which the source code is not open source. I am sure the license does not allow for free redistribution of their commercial software.

All it says on their website is this:

Use of Software

Use of the software that is made available to download from this Site is subject to the terms of the license agreement that accompanies the software. If you do not agree to such terms of the license agreement you will not be able to use the software.

So I guess we can't really find out without getting the software itself. Anyone feel like englightening me/us as to any license agreements that accompany the free ISO? :)

Once I can get the .iso, I will report. Either way, if it is the full, unmodified commercial product, I assure you it's not freely redistributable the same way any other commercial software is not freely redistributable.

Hey, they are doing a promotion, and it sure is nice of them to offer the full retail versions :) They added a lot to make a product. If everything were "free" why would anyone want to create anything if there is no incentive?

Some people are greedy and selfish... they just want everything to be free or think that it should be. I mean it takes so little to spoil something so good.

Basically the agreement that you sign in with them states that you will not redistribute the software because you do not have permission.

remember this is a PROMOTION in which the company is allowing you a chance to get the OS for free! When was the last time that a company offered anything for free?!? Usually companies only offer slight savings, or trinkets to get you to buy something.

Ok, thanks for the info. You can spare me with the rhetoric though.
