DOW, NASDAQ Tumble At Open

I dont think anyone expected the markets to surge... if we end less than 100 pts lower on the Dow and less than 50 on the NASDAQ, I would count that a success for the day.

that owuld be a huge success...

dow is down 179.91 and nasdaq is down 106.38

People, what did you honestly expect? Have some of us forgotten what happened on Tuesday? Remember, stocks are about the long term. Keep your money where it is.

By the way, some companies are going to be buying back some of their stock to keep the price up to a certain level. DON'T PANIC. There will also be bargain hunters this week.

Edit: There are people out there selling stocks in industries that stand to profit from this mess. Don't forget there are idiots out there who immediately go out and withdraw all their money from the bank and go buy gas for $6/gal every time something like this happens. In the end their idiocy causes them to take it up the rear.

NASDAQ looks to be bouncing early... it is up from a low of 113 down to 97 down right now...

only 20 of the 30 DJIA stocks are trading so far. Still not to full capacity.

EDIT: DJIA is starting to bounce also... up 8 points from its low... NASDAQ also up another 6

EDIT2: Well there went that thought! Look out below!

Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE) is at like 6800. I believe last year it was around 10k.

Grr

I'm not selling, but I think nasdaq, tse, dow will continue to plummet for the day, although not at this pace obviously (cause if so it would be at zero by lunch time!). This is only temporary of course, but sickening nonetheless. Man, if feds keep dropping interest rates soon we'll be paid to borrow money.

If I had cash sitting around I'd put in a buy order for some mutual fund shares today I can tell you that!

Don't forget.. the market has built in BREAK POINTS... if the DOW falls 1100 points, trading will HALT for some time.

<< Now the DJ is down 144. not as bad as i thought. So thats good 🙂 >>

i am seeing 276 down right now. Where did you see 144???

i am seeing down almost 500 points

i think some issues (the one with huge order imbalance of sells) were opened late

yep, i just saw down 492.

I have the DOW down about 485 points (from 2 real time sources). NASDAQ around 100 points. About as I expected.

The important thing is to keep an open and orderly market. Short term drops are not that important.
