doubleclick cookie=spyware??

if I prompt cookie permission in IE security every page on this site wants to add cookies to my cookie folder...one of them is from doubleclick...and ad-ware marks it as spyware...is it??? and if it is, why does this site allow it to be inserted into my computer??? how about it Admins???

It's not this site explicitly as such...it's the banners. The banners want to add the cookies, not the forums or the main site.

If you want to stop them, become a subscriber....no banner ads.

Andy, I know its from the banners...but you would think that if the cookies were "spyware" someone should object...not only that, but if I "allow" anand cookies so I don't have to "log in" everytime, and then disallow cookies I still have to log in....and even then it won't "hold over" to other pages-threads...doesn't seem right...

Oh...I see what you mean now.

Well, I guess you are that someone who objects. Probably have to see what Anand or Zuni says then.

Kamiam, there is nothing we can do about it. It's a fact that most every site you visit sets a cookie of some kind to track statistics. The ad companies are no different they have to do geographics etc. These cookies are harmless.

> and ad-ware marks it as spyware...is it???

Let's just say that Adaware is being a little agressive here. This cookie allows them to track where you go so they can tailor ads to your tastes/demographics. If you have a problem with that surf over to them and find the opt out info, this will place an opt out cookie on your system so they won't track you (you'll get random ads in that case)

Or, as AndyHui said, subscribe, that will fix it also!

doubleclick is a friendly spyware, it will target adds just for you. In other words, if your browsing habbits are into music it will display a Music CD add for example. It will post adds depending on what the cookie reports back. Cookies are harmless but they can give away personal and private information as to your browsing habbits, email ect..

Curious as to how you can say; cookies are harmless and can give away personal and private information in the same sentence. I opt-out at doubleclick several times and after flushing out at least 2000 doubleclick cookies since then, I can say, the Doubleclick regime is totally corrupt and are outright liars.
My Adaware routinely tags a few of the doubleclick cookies as spyware.
Best wishes,
