I dunno man, NC is nowhere near as backwards as WV. NC has only three major population centers:

-Charlotte
-Greensboro/High Point/Winston-Salem
-Raleigh/Durham/Cary/Apex

All areas are pretty well educated -- Raleigh-Durham is basically Silicon Valley East. But the relatively highly educated people in these areas far outweigh the rednecks in the other part of the state
