Double-Sided VS. Single-sided

I've always wondered this. what's the difference between single-sided and double-sided dimms in terms of performance and overclockability?

You can run four single sided sticks or two double sided sticks without a performance decrease.

If you use three or four double sided sticks you will take a performance hit, I'm pretty sure it is standard across all motherboards, but I could be wrong.

Go to this link and scroll down to the memory table.

D-D (DDR 400)
S-S-S (DDR 400)

S-S-D (DDR 333)
D-D-D (DDR 333)

That is only true for the 130nm A64. I said its the CPU not the motherboard because the memory controller is on the CPU on A64.

As far as I know, its true for all A64s, its just most serious with the 130nm ones. But all A64s will have some issues with 4 sticks of double sided.

all a64's are supposed to be ran with no more than two sticks the memory controller on the chip is only designed to handle that much i have seen a few people in the forums when they put more than two the temps when up on there processor and when they take them out they go back down just to give you an idea that it has to work alot harder. that is why people say get a 1gig stick instead of two 512's when going a64.
