fire > rainbows

but 3 rainbows is pretty cool

Definitely.

Fire is awesome. I'm a huge fire bug, anything that revolves around fire of some sort I absolutely love watching.

Fire tornadoes are just crazy awesome.

Personally my favorite atmospheric interaction with fire (a type of fire... sort of?), is the lightning induced by charged particles bouncing around in the ash clouds during a volcanic eruption. Probably the most awesome thing, something I'd love to see in person.

That right there is probably the source of all kinds of ancient myths, and likely mass sacrifices too.

"....holy shit, the gods are really pissed off now!"

Definitely - many ancient civilizations had volcanoes nearby, and you can see stories that reference the heavens when describing major eruptions, dating back for thousands of years.

I've seen a triple rainbow once, and it didn't look like the picture in the OP. I'm trying to figure out if the picture in the OP is physically possible.

Light can refract from different angles, ya know. 😛 I've seen dual rainbows that weren't congruent. Why wouldn't this be possible?

Thanks, destrekor. I didn't even notice the water in the foreground in the first place in the picture in the OP.

Is that your picture? Or something that someone else took? And, to see an actual triple rainbow (without a reflection) - absolutely amazing. I was driving down the highway and stopped when I saw it.

Heh, I didn't even notice that water either. Just now saw it.

And no, I just stumbled on it. Interestingly enough, saw it on spaceweather.com.
