double dip

This reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Costanza gets caught double dipping a chip, but it's a bit different.

So let's say you're observing a cook cooking food for you, and they taste the food with a spoon. They add a few ingredients and re dip the "dirty" spoon back in the food to taste it again. Is that considered ok? Am I wrong in thinking that's gross? The cook says the food will be cooked so it's safe. I say, would you eat my spit if I cooked it in a pan? That will concentrate it even more! Course it would kill bacteria...but still...

Well gross or not gross? What say you?

I think double dipping should be the least of your concerns when someone else is preparing food for you.

oh, it doesn't bother me...

At home, not problem.

Out to eat and see the cook do this, I'd be pissed and probably leave.

When I worked in restaurants, there was a saying:

"The more expensive the meal, the more your food is touched by the chef."

Not a big deal.

I dunno... depends on the restaurant?

I mean, some places make such good food that in this case... "ignorance is bliss". If they do double-dip like that... fine, as long as I don't know about it. I guess.

I mean, if I suddenly know that Restaurant XYZ has double-dipped every time I've ordered from them, it's not like their food will taste any different... same as before: bread, sauce, cheese, spit....

Guess it is a psychological battle.
