The double breasted suits are kind of out now and don't look modern. Most men choose the single breasted suit because it is much more slimming.
I don't think i have ever seen a NICE pair of dress paints without pleats though.
Dockers, that is a different story.

Pleated is on the way out, much like double breasted suits. All of the new suits I've got (3 Hugo Boss) are flat front and single breated.

I think to pull off a double breasted suit, you should be thin. I don't think that looks works if you are even a bit on the heavy side.

that makes me happy. I have always thought that pleated fronts make both men and women look frumpy.

If it were socially acceptable, I'd drape myself in velvet.

I'm not a fan of pleated pants, btu then I'm quite thin. They are for thicker individuals, and work well on huge legs. Most finely tailored suit pants you will find are pleated, and not always to the extent that you get the MC Hammer effect.

I've always preferred flat-front, and am glad that they've finally become popular, as I now have more options in my once-a-year new pair purchases :D

Flip through any men's magazine today and you will not find a single double breasted suit being worn. Not surprise since they do not look good. 2 or 3 button single breasted suit FTW. And only rappers or a chump wears 4 or more button suits.

This morning I tried an old pair of pleated pants to see how they look compared to all my other flat front pants. Made me look like I was wearing mc hammer pants as the top was way too wide and tapered narrowly down to the bottom opening. That pair of pleated pants is certainly getting toss.

Any one agree?

i agree. pleated pants are so out. i'll bet they are flourishing on eBay. :p

What the heck? It's pleated or bust!

I can't find any info saying a suit pant must be pleated. Only that the whole suit must be tailored from the same material and color. Personally I do not like the look of pleated pants.

Again, I think it's all about body type. Pleated works best for larger body-types and flat looks best on thinner men. Also, I think that the pleats help to match the way the bottom of the jacket hangs down and over your waste.

Pleats are ungodly on Khakis--I don't think there is any excuse for these--automatic sign of Dork. They work on slacks though.

Also, a properly tailored suit (if you're into that sort of thing) will be for your body type. Pleats will be added/left out depending on how the suit should fit you.

bah, flat front on dress pants makes you look like you've got them on backwards. also, then there is no where for the crease to go. it just ends. looks weird. so i hate flat front pants.

i also hate lots of giant pleats. i don't need my pants to balloon out like MC hammer.

the solution: 1 small pleat. doesn't balloon out, looks like you've got your pants on properly.

Now the question is, can you use the zipper properly? :D :D :D

Pleated pants are the "mom jeans" of men's fashion. If you NEED pleats, you should be buying pants with an appropriately sized waist rather than trying to cram your doughnut bloated self into a pair that fit you in high school. Leave the "crimped" look to sausages...

Retail mall stores sell what people buy - which isn't always what looks good or is "in style". If you need the extra room to stuff crap in your pockets that won't fit in flat-front pants, buy a briefcase or man-purse and mack it metro-style. :)

I actually iron the crease out... I don't like creases in pants.

Well... I'm colorblind and color stupid. I also dress like I just came out of the early nineties rave scene. (Well, I kind of did come out of it).

It drives my girly crazy... So I let her get me some other clothes once in a while... I can't complain!

Oh, even I know that Pleated pants = LOOSE

Dockers, that is a different story.
Speaking as someone who has an older-style physique (i.e. skinny), the last thing I need is for anything to be "slimming". That said, I prefer single-breasted suits because they're simply more comfortable. They're also more traditional.

If I could get a quality three-piece suit (i.e. includes a vest) in the British style, I'd love it, but that's a level that would run me well over $1,000 and I won't be able to afford that for quite a while.

not in my field it doesn't. what's fashionable looks like some metrosexual espresso drinking italian model. you wouldn't be taken seriously. and clients would think they're paying you too much.
