Dothan vs Conroe-L

ok trying to convince my self not to buy
but refund check is coming and wife wants to buy other bs stuff lol (god I hate pier1)

so currently I have a 479 htpc/media server (in sig)
and it does a good job (sd-dvr and ripping)
but I keep seeing all of these great deals

so I just want to ask
how much of a difference

P-M dothan 1.7 2mb vs Celeron 420 Conroe-L 1.6 512KB

im pretty sure the dothan uses less wattage (currently undervolted + speedstep)
but is it just as fast or will the celeron spank it? (no oc)

(sorry I dont see too many charts with lappy cpus vs desktops)

heh, my wife wants to use our refund for my daughter's baptism, so i feel your pain. as for your cpu choices, i'd go with the conroe. btw, what's the pricing?

A Dothan @ 1.7ghz w/ 2mb of cache will blow a 1.6ghz conroe-L out of the water, its based on a very simlar core design (dothan is core duo core 2 didn't make that huge an ipc difference) I'd stick w/ what you have.

baptism I would be ok..
a new sofa (old one is >3 years old) and other poop to just to make the rooms have a welcome feel... 😕
I wish I knew where she gets these (crap) ideas from

but I was looking at that newegg combo Pc crapo mb and cel 420 for $60 ish

even tho the cel 420 has less cache I thought it would be quicker cause it's on a smaller die, extra instructions blah blah blah..?
