I personally think it's a hot deal, specially since I paid $299 + $40 shipping/handling. It's a great monitor, I currently run it at 1280x1024 and it runs great, it doesn't hurt my eyesight at all. I personally recommend it, but I'm sure you'll hear different stories.

*Free shipping doesn't apply to monitors or anything over like 20lbs I think.*

Well it all depends on the shipping costs when it costs $229... It would be a good idea to watch and see if the price goes down after the DOTD when the free shipping (next week) kicks in...

If so, $229 - $30 + free shipping = $199... $10 diff... If you need it, buy now I'd say (with the $30 off coupon of course).

EDIT: whoops, that blows... I got my Nokia 447XiPlus from buy.com with the free shipping. In those days free shipping applied to everything!

Free shipping does not apply to monitors and other items over 20lbs so it would be better to order now.

I got this monitor a year ago and think it is great. It has a good warranty, is bright and sharp.

The flat trinitron monitors have the two lines, this monitor is not flat so no lines, I believe its shadow mask or something like that.

the monitor description says it's flat, but doesn't mention trinitron, so you should be safe from the lines

uh, just to clear something up... the horizontal lines have absolutely nothing to do with trinitron or whether or not the monitor is flat. the two lines appear in AG-pitch monitors, and do not appear in dot-pitch monitors. AG (Aperture Grille) is a type of monitor where the image is shot through sort of a mesh, which is held by two wires just behind the screen. what you're actually seeing, when you see those lines, is the shadow of the two wires. they are only really visible on very light backgrounds, which is a minus (i guess) but the plus side is that an aperture grille monitor is a little more crisp, and a LOT brighter/saturated colors. my viewsonic is aperture-grille (i use it for graphics production) and i don't think i'd ever go back to dot-pitch monitors. just my .02.

I have a KDS av17", it uses the trinitron tube. The two lines does NOT bother me at all. If you're turned from buying a trinitron monitor solely because of the lines, take my word that the picture quality difference more then offset the lines.

raj there are 2 different NECs- that was a different monitor- that was the NEC 95F and this is the 90.
A couple of differences:
90 - flat square, .26 dp
95F- flat, .25 dp
refresh rates comparable
both are Invar Shadow Mask type- (= not trinitron)

NEC monitor page

I think the 90 is being discontinued- from all the clearance prices on them, in favor of the new 95F with the flat screen and I personally would spend a few dollars more and go with the better one (95F).
Oh yeah, I did. I have one.

ETLA:
why not buy another of what you have, and use a matrox G400 or G450, with dual output... then you can have two monitors on one video card acting as one widescreen desktop..

Man.... I hate that monitor...
I built 2 systems with that same monitor, both of them when blank after installing the vid card drivers... Called NEC tech support and they did send me 2 replacement monitors but I still had to pay for the shipping of the broken ones which came out to around $90!!!!
Don't buy!!!
Spend $150 more and get the Multisync model!!!! Accusyncs SUCK!!!!!
(Or spend about $300 on the Samsung ones which I have great experience with... $300 one is the Dyna-flat one which is similar to AG technology without the inevitable horizontal lines that appear after about 3 years....)

...I was just looking at this monitor a few days ago @ buy.com, but said I'll wait till I can save on shipping...With it the DOTD, the wait is over...I'm running an old CyberVision C72 17", which I am happy with...but for $219.00 delivered, this seems sweet...

..anyone else have anything nice to say about the quality of this bad boy? 30 have been sold since I last checked, so might just in before they are all gone...

I think monitor is one of those things that people should really spedn their money on becuase it displays whatever there not matter what kind of system you have. Furthermore, it'll last you a long time unlike other computer parts.... I think I am gonna go buy an Iiyama when I got the money...so What video card should I get again Syf3r??? I currently have a TNT2 so thinking just get another one...any suggestions for dual monitor set ups?? DESIGNERS out there?

ETLA:

like i said, if you're looking for a solid dual-monitor setup, check out the matrox g400 or g450 (both have dual-channel versions). i'm using the g400 with my viewsonic pt775, and i use the other channel to output dvd directly into my tv set. these cards come with s-video and pal adapters so you can plug the second channel into your tv, output your primary channel onto a tv, watch dvd in a small window on your monitor while it plays fullscreen on the tv, etc... go with the 32Mb version, because when you use both channels it splits 16Mb to each channel, as opposed to 16/8x8. this isn't a game-playing card though, so you should know that ahead of time. for me, that's not a concern at all.

Well....My last monitor purhcase, Optiquest V95 19" cost me $450 & I spent $80 to have it federal expressed next day to my door, was about 2 years ago. I snagged that one yesterday from buy.com for $240 shipped (had to pay tax.., was $219.99 + tax, free shipping), so to me, I got an almost identical monitor (spec wise) for $300 less. I'm a happy puppy.

Windows 2000 lets you set up dual monitors simply by putting another video card in a pci slot.

the matrox cards are easy but is does seem a shame to share 32meg, when you can get 2 32meg cards for less than 1 g450.

maybe...
