DOTA 2 leak shows code for Episode 3

I think this is actually quite depressing. With this kind of delay I'd expect them to abandon to episodic thing altogether... but this just confirms they aren't working hard on it AND it'll still be another short episodic blurb.

I honestly think that they have no idea where this storyline is going and have a group of developers chained up dying to code but not being able to until the story has been written.

Everything that valve makes is a huge disappointment.

I liked Half Life, Half Life 2, Portal, TF2, Left 4 Dead, Counter Strike: Source, and Dota 2 looks promising.

I haven't played Portal 2, so I can't comment there.

This whole half-life episodic content shenanigans is the only major time valve has dropped the ball, IMO.

Considering the gaming industry ranks Half-Life as one of the best games ever made, I respectfully disagree with your post.

Valve makes some great games, their just not your typical battlefield/call of duty clone like what everyone else is making.

Half-Life
Half-Life 2
Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead 2
Counter-Strike/CS:S
Team Fortress Classic

Are all great games.

As for the OP, Left 4 Dead 2 has a lot of Counter-Strike:Source code in it. DOTA having code for EP3 does not mean a whole lot.

CS isn't Valve, CSS was just a clone of CS and the Left 4 Dead series is utter shit. I don't understand Valve-worship. It's nearly as mysterious to me as Blizzard-worship.

Let me restate that for you, "I don't like Valve games, so why does everyone else?"

Let me respond by saying, it's ok to disagree, but don't act like you're opinion is somehow superior. Understanding this "worship" is as easy as recognizing that quite a few people like most of Valve's products, and I'm sure you're capable of that.

I love some Valve games. HL2 is one of the best games ever. The ending of Ep2 left me on the edge of my seat begging for more. Portal is a masterpiece and I have several hundred hours in TF2. What I don't like is pathetic Valve worship. Let's not pretend they haven't done some absolute crap in the past.

And my opinion is superior. If it wasn't it would be some other chump's opinion and mine would be different. Obviously.

Left 4 Dead is boring, monotonous, repetitive garbage. Not really sure how much more detail I can give.

A lot of people that I see complaining about the game do not want to work as a team, they are used to playing battlefield/call of duty/or counter-strike, and think they can run off and do what they want.

I would call the l4d series anything but boring. I guess if your team is not working together, nobody has mics, and there is no communications, yea, it might be a little boring.

I have a lot of games in my steam account, probably close to 80 or 90 games, and the l4d series is the one I enjoy the most.

If you think L4D is such boring crap, you either

A) Are playing on easy
B) Playing alone or with a crappy team

The reason people like Valve is because they invest in their community. You may not like L4D, that is fine, however many studios wouldn't have invested in L4D, just like many studios wouldn't have invested in Portal. That is what people admire, worship even. Other developers. just. don't. do. it.

well with portal is the concept. and these days ppl are a little afraid to invest in new things that might or not work. instead they take the same thing over and over again (just look at CoD )

I thought L4D was fairly original and interesting, but I was bored after playing the demo. Then L4D2 came out a year later and was literally the exact same game with a few minor changes (even less changes than the yearly CoD games make).

I'm not saying the games were bad. I just personally thought they were extremely boring and below average for Valve games.

The entire industry uses the catch phrase "Valve time" to indicate a meaningless deadline. At one point Gabe Newell even arbitrarily had everyone stop whatever they were working on brain storm... for two months! These people are the equivalent of pot smoking hippy dippy artists of the industry and even have some ex-Jim Henson muppet talent on staff. You can bitch all you want about their crazy methods and timeline, but they've gone from a tiny group to a huge corporation with one hit after another and Steam to boot.

I am. And yes, L4D2 is a fucking joke, it should have been a patch but Valve decided to milk the franchise instead. And nerds everywhere get geekboners for these DRM-pole-smokers for some reason.

Oh, I agree about L4D2. I was one of the boy-cotters that actually didn't buy the game.
